Since Toyota Canada don't want me to buy a DCSB 4x4 OR here, I am looking to buy it in the US and bring it back here.

I called a dealer in Plattsburg NY to learn about the process. They told me they are not allowed to sell to someone without a US address, and after the sale, the truck need to stay in the US for 120 days. WTF.

I would like to hear from you guys who completed sucessfully this process.

It is precisely this kind of bullshit that is making me the owner of a 2016 Subaru and not a 2016 Tacoma.

Do you have any American relatives you trust? You can give them the money for them to buy for you and then transfer ownership.

Frankly I think buying any US Toyota would not be worth it because you would get zero warranty service in Canada. You would have to get the truck to an American dealership to get it serviced. Can you imagine what a pita that would be?

Plus have you checked the exchange rate recently?

For the service, I checked with Toyota Canada customer service and they honor US vehicule waranty. It is supposely the same for canadian vehicule imported in the US.

For the exchange rate, probably the lower sale price would largely compensate. It is well known that us Canadians are screwed big time on any goods sold here. I still have to check whec canadian pricing will be available. For shure, I will have to pay federal and provincial sale taxes, for a total of 15%...

There are a several companies that are in the business of importing US cars to canada. For example http://usautoimport.ca
You can contact a company like that and they should be able to tell you everything you need to know.

Canadian dealers honour warranty without issue, but you will have to get an American to buy it for you. They can't sell new vehicles to Canadians.

You might have to register the vehicle in country when you buy it

Yes, for a duration of at least 120 days. I don't know if I can get it here with a US plate before the end of this period, or if I have to leave it in the US for that duration.

To each his own but if you plan on doing this you will get killed on price. I bought a USA truck TRD sport LB in 2007 when the dollar was close to par and I bought it directly from a Toyota dealer in New Hampshire where I had to pay no USA taxes. I paid like 28k I think when the truck was like 40k here in Canada. On a side note my 2013 here in Canada had dropped to 37k so they actually when down in price. Anyway Toyota USA dealers will not sell new trucks to us Canucks anymore. If you due manage to get one and avoid the USA taxes here is what happens at the border. You will pay $100 if the truck is air conditioned,$200 plus gst for the RIV fee and gst on the total truck price in Canadian funds. Lets say you get a truck for 35k US. The exchange rate today is 1.32 so you will pay $46200 on the conversion alone. Add on the gst at the border and your pst when you get it home and inspection work done for say a total of $6000 in taxes plus mentioned fees and the cost to get it and the price is crazy. If you have to finance the cash as well it will be even worse because you cannot finance it through Toyota.

I think you summarize very well the situation (not my big fat wallet which I don't have...!!!). My only problem is I want a DC TRD off-road, not sold in Canada. I want to be able to go to Moab and have fun.

There is a thread about other options and the 4Runner Trail is among them. I might got with it, but this is still 55K CAD and worse fuel consumption than the 2016 and a bit wider and my garage is very narrow. A Wrangler... maybe if I am not affraid of repairs.

Another option is buying a DC TRD Sport and mod it to match the TRD Off-road. This will probably invalidate Toyota warranty.

    Stuck man.

Christ Man, just get a Frontier crew cab Pro 4x, put a small lift on it and call it a day.
