My buddy owns a body shop and says its the Insurance company that outlines whether or not OEM parts are used. Per him most companies request for aftermarket vs. OEM and even the ones that do state to use OEM indicate used OEM is acceptable.

From this its not up to what you want, but what your insurance company covers. People want to pay less on their auto insurance, well its things like this that need to be considered and typically aren't.

That TT driver is an idiot, I'm sure you have more pics to CYA. Looking at the houses in the background I know that road. I travel it when I need to go to Budds Creek or Fredricksburg.Glad your okay, sorry about your truck.

So how do you know if the body shop actually uses OEM parts?

That estimate is too low, corners will be cut, and cheap parts used ,Raise Hell with your insurance agent insist on oem parts, I have excellent insurance in this situation they would kick in and pay to make it right, Then they would go would after the other parties insurance. Some inferior insurance companies try their best to give you the root, the last thing they want is a big insurance company's lawyers up their ass.

The estimate they provided indicated aftermarket parts would be used. The service advisor at the shop said they would try to price match what they could and provide oem parts where they could. Guess we'll see what happens. Again I'm not out for blood but I also will not accept anything inferior.

Mr Salty is 100% correct, its not up to you or the bodyshop, The insurance co. looks at the year and value and deturmains if it's aftermarket or OEM. parts. When my 03 got hit insurance wanted to put aftermarket, but my buddy at the bodyshop insisted on OEM and told them I'm to picky and after a little back and forth they agreed. I also told them I would pay the difference if they said no. Good Luck OP.

I'm not sure about your states laws regarding diminished value, but you might be able to file for diminished value and that might help push it over the threshold towards being totaled. You had an accident-free (I'm assuming) truck before the other party hit you and devalued your property. You now have a truck that is worth less than it was before it was hit.

Get the truck back and them complain it looks like shit and you are not happy with it and have them redo the whole thing with OEM parts. That's what I did with my lady's car that got hit. They hit and destroyed your property so you get what you want so don't back down brotha

That sucks!! So sorry to see your baby damaged like that. :(

Don't be afraid of your own insurance company. Since the other driver admitted fault (and will ultimately be found at fault anyhow) your insurance company works on your behalf. If you were at fault then they'd be trying to pinch pennies. In this case however their call to action is to squeeze every dime out of the other party on your behalf.

If the tow truck company did further damage your insurance company will go after them to compensate them for any money they put out to fix your truck.

Hand over the photos to your insurance guy/gal.

Insist on genuine Toyota parts for all repairs. You're not paying for it and it was all original to begin with. Make sure it's as close to new again as possible.

Absolutely they are. They carry their own insurance to cover them in instances like this.

Just got an update from the dealership...said that it's looking more and more like they're going to total it. The service advisor said the frame is pushed back quite a bit which they couldn't see until they got it up on the lift.

I was thinking a total. They total just about anything these days.

Sad to lose your truck that was well cared for, but with all the damage and the tow-truck drop, I think you'll be happier in the long run with a new truck.

I'm hoping they do total it...not counting my chickens though. I'd be more than happy to pick up a newer 4WD with less mileage for the same payment!

My old 2000 took a tree to the drivers side front wheel and it really buckled the Frame bad, they would not total it and it spent 48 days in the body shop with a lot of that time on the frame machine.

I hate tow trucks. You have a 50/50 chance of getting a complete hack who ends up making things worse.
