wtf

ok so my truck vibrates. it starts at like 35 and gets bad at 45 and starts smoothing out at like 60 or so.
any ideas?
Has 4 brand new tires balanced with an alignment.
drive shaft?

 

How old is your truck (what year)? How many miles? Have you had your brakes/rotors checked or changed recently? Did you switch from street tires to aggressive tread? Is there possibly mud packed in your wheels throwing them off balance?

There's a lot of things that could cause this. If your front end is worn out, ie. tie rods, idler arm, etc., you could notice a vibration at lower speeds, but smooth out at higher speeds. If you switched to a more aggressive tire tread, you might notice a vibration at lower speeds. If your rotors are warped or your wheels have been packed with excess mud, you might also notice a vibration. Lots of things to check.

 

Doublecheck the balance - a friend of mine was getting new tires, and witnessed the manager scolding the tech for not fully balancing one of his four tires. The tech didn't want to pull the new tire off the wheel and try another, and it turned out the new tire was defective and was way WAY out of balance on its own. They had to toss the first one out and use another one.

 

I second the rebalance.

I was a tire jocky for 7 years and saw many new tires get balanced wrong.

It can happen for a few reasons.

1. The tire was mounted wrong. they put the heavy spot in the wrong place
2. the tires are bad in general
3. the machines mount surface was not clean. yes this is a reason to use clean shops
4. Over torgues lug nuts
5. bad braking system
6. Rust on mounting surface and rims

So just get it redone and have them check the mounting location of the tire on the rims. Some tired have Yeloow triangles and red bots that need to be put on the right way. these color item need to be lined up with the Valvle stem or opisite of the vavle stem, depending on the tire.

Also check your Raditor hoses. if they are old and hard, this could be part of it. I have not seen this on newer cars and truck just old old ones.

 

If it isn't your tires i would lean to driveline. Check your U-Joints. Mine did the same thing when the joints were going bad. the vibration went from 45-60 after 60 it almost went away, would suck to have it come loose on you. check them.

 

its a 97 tacoma. 4x4 5spd. the tires were fine when i originally got it done. so i doubt its the tires.

now the rotors could be a good thing to check. and also the u joints.


ubermx5 what r u talking about with radiator hoses?

 

you could have lost a weight. also if you used fix-a-flat and didnt drive it around for 15 miles or 15 minutes it will ball up and stick to 1 spot in the tire....believe me,been there,done that

 

On older cars and truck, the Raditor hoses at times got to hard.
The hardness made them vibrates at 35 and 60 mph..
Well it made the Front of the car vibrate.

So I tell eveny one to make sure there hoses are soft and plyable.
This is very rare these days, as the the new rubber used last so much longer.

on my 98 I still have the OEM hoses with 120K miles on them.
