I hope they total it... I hit a whatever thousand pound bull standing in the middle of a rainy dark road @ 50 mph. It wasn't a taco but a buick and the farmers (not company) homeowners insurance paid for everything but the car was never the same. It felt so weird driving it "fixed". Traded it in and since I knew the dude at the dealership he told me it was re-sold of course, but caught fire in a grocery store parking lot for no reason... yea right. that car was totaled and should have went to the scrap yard.

Is your property, and the others party fault. you can demand a second opinion if they don't want to total it. have them take it to another reputable Toyota dealership at the insurance's expense and have them re-evaluate the frame for symmetry. You call the shots. If they do end up totaling it (which more than likely they will do) you can buy the truck back from the insurance at the new "devaluation" price and either fix it or use it for parts for you next Tacoma.

Good luck! I just dealt with this crap last month.. looking at the drive shaft having a ding, better get a new one out of this if all they are doing is repairing. If your wanting them to total you can fight it also if you have any repair shop friends make them look at it if possible and say its not safe for repair or driving. Mine got totaled and i had A LOT of fighting to go through, Dont settle for their first offer. But i got a year newer truck, 67K less miles, and went from prerunner to 4x4.. my payment is $1 a month more than before. Check out my wreck thread, there is a lot of good advice in there.

Playing the waiting game sucks. Geico's rep has to come out either tomorrow or Wednesday to decide if it's totaled or not. Thankfully I did purchase the gap insurance so at least thats good. I've been looking online trying to find another truck but it's just a waste of time right now because I can't do anything until I have confirmation from Geico.

Let me know how that works out. I'm looking into new insurance companies. I change about every four years or so when my rates get jacked to the sky for no apparent reason.

I did report the 2nd claim for the tow truck but Progressive's (my insurance company's) adjuster still hasn't called me back. I'll be calling them about that tomorrow.

2nd Geico estimate has been entered into their system...$18,594.31 is the repair estimate. Added a new frame and radiator support plus a few more things. Now we shall see what they offer me for the truck....

Geico still hasn't decided what they're going to offer me so I went ahead and went shopping today. I drive a ton for work so I needed something with lower miles. I found a few 4x4's I liked and could afford but they all had frame rust. Found a certified 2011 Sport Prerunner with 53k. It's the exact same truck I had with new tires, tube steps, hard tonneau, and about 40,000 less miles. I wound up with a payment that's about $100 less per month so I guess this wreck worked out for me.

Final update from me...just got the settlement offer from Geico...$21,411.00. Not bad for a 5 year old pre runner with 95,000 miles on it. One of the comparable vehicles they used to determine the value was the truck I bought to replace it!
