    Hey guys,

Looking into getting a new set of brakes on my 2013 Access Cab and idk if i want to spend the $180 for 2 oem rotors or should i just go out and buy these for less and its the whole kit. The truck has 42k on it and when i bought it at 35 the dealership put new pads on and never changed out the rotors so now i believe they are slightly warped cause coming to a stop sometimes the steering wheel shakes.

Just curious what you guys think of these or if anyone's got them?

    http://www.amazon.com/Power-Stop-K1...p/B005FKS28C/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

    Thanks guys!!!!

Hey man. I am not sure about these particular ones but I did just put some of the powerstop extreme brake pads on my truck and they work great! I think powerstop makes some good braking gear! You should be good with these

I put Powerstop brakes on my Audi. They were awesome for six months, then they went to shit.

Getting them to cover them under warranty was like pulling teeth, and I still had to pay for shipping.

Just do it right and buy OEM parts.

Also, you might be able to have your rotors turned for about $30. They should still have plenty of meat on them.

I measured them the other day with a set of calipers and they measure 28mm which is what they should be brand new and minimum thickness is 26mm. Just makes no sense that the rotors have 42k miles on them and haven't worn.......?

I haven't seen a lot of people on here talk about rotors that early for routine swap. But you are talking about a Toyota :D

Probably something else that's causing it. I would take it back and say something isn't right.

If your dead set on upgrading brakes poke through some of the build threads and see what others are running.

Will they do something about the brakes since it's still under warranty? Cause isn't that a normal wear item that they won't replace?

They'll look for every reason to not cover anything, and brakes are a wear item, so probably not.

The rotor thickness shouldn't shake the wheel, you need to measure the run out.

I have had this kit installed for around 5,000 miles. I also bought my truck used, and the owner had put new pads on but the rotors must've been worn. It didn't take long for the steering wheel to start shaking when braking. It got worse, so I had this kit put on. Braking distance is noticeably better and they feel great so far. I got mine on Amazon for $160 or so.

Not sure if it's in your price range or not, EBC stage 5 brakes will stop a lifted/armored truck on 35's faster than I could have ever imagined. Going from the stock setup to the EBC is a night and day difference. Slotted/dimpled rotors with yellowstuff pads.

I was actually contemplating buying a ebc setup since rotors alone are already 200. Where did you get your ebc setup and for how much?

And i don't mind spending a little more money on a set of brakes and rotors if there gonna last!!!! And i do haul stuff with my truck like firewood and a good bit of stuff so i would assume the yellow stuff would be better than the green stuff?

To the OP. If the front pads were replaced at 35k, either the previous driver(s) were heavy footed or the dealership just wanted to pad up (pun intended) the selling price.

But, the problem is the new pads were not bedded in properly, so now you have a feel problem, and highly unlikely there is any actual need to spend big $ to correct at this point.

Rotors don't warp. Its a slab of cast iron. Do some reading at

    http://www.stoptech.com/technical-support/technical-white-papers/-warped-brake-disc-and-other-myths

There is no reason to change the rotors if they still measure well, have not been damaged by things like pad rivets cutting deep grooves, etc.

The rotors can be refreshed often by some manual effort / cleaning to remove pad residue (what people call warping), or being lightly turned on a brake lathe. Do some investigation before spending the money for a turning though. Some vehicles have new blanks that are only a few $ more than the turning cost. Don't know about the Tacoma. Places like NAPA have good prices many times.

The key to preventing a lot of the complaints is both a decent pad and proper bedding of the pad/rotor. And yes, you can bed a new pad to an old rotor.

If the vehicle has had a lot of weight added, a more aggressive pad may be beneficial to initial stopping power. Having properly bled good brake fluid in the system is important to feel as well. Generally upsizing brakes (big brake kits) are only needed to solve specific problems, like overheating the brakes. Having the rear drums properly serviced and adjusted matters on these trucks too. My guess is most of them rarely get even looked at, and many folks aren't even familiar with drums/what to look for.

If your brakes can quickly lock your wheels (or activate ABS) then your stopping capacity is determined by tire grip and road surface combined. Tires that produce high mileage wear results (hard rubber) and/or are suited for heavy off road use (hard rubber, many plys) are not pavement grip friendly.

Like everything else automotive, most choices made are a compromise of something else. Know what those are and make the right choices for how you use the vehicle the bulk of the time, not for the exception.

I got mine from TotalAutomotivePerformance. They used to be a vendor on here but the coupon code TACOMAWORLD still worked for me, came out to $315 to my door for rotors and pads. I've heard great things about both the green and yellow pads but I can only comment on the yellow stuff pads, they are fantastic. Little more brake dust that usual but perform incredibly well. If you're hauling stuff in your truck id go with the yellows, you will not be disappointed.
