I had a 12" from antennaX and reception was horrible. Unless you live in or close by the city you won't have very good reception with stubby antennas. Had mine on for 3 days and took it off.

I ordered this one because 1) I don't care about radio reception as much as I care that my truck doewn't look like it's owned by a grandpa plus 2) it's cheap and probably most importantly 3) it says TRD right on it so it's good for 5hp.

I have a stubby and it sucks. Was good for a few weeks and once I went with an aftermarket head unit. Reception sucks. Going back to the OEM version

Yeah, I have this 7.5 hp one & it's pretty terrible. The reception isn't the issue, not breaking it is... The base stays intact, but the rest of it snaps off. I had to use marine epoxy to keep it together. I also keep the factory one inside the truck for when it completely fails...

Ha! I planned to keep the factory one in the truck somewhere too just in case I got afraid of the added powerz.

So, any recommendation to get a shorter and good working antenna?

I tried the Steadfast 8" antenna, # 10119. I didn't like it as I live in the 'suburbs' and the strong radio stations had too much static. I then switched to the Steadfast 14", #10121, and I'm much happier with it. The stronger stations come in good and I have more space to hear MP3 music when I turn on my GoGroove bluetooth.

yup, I got a great one at either autozone or orieley. can't remember. it's exactly like stock- black with that smaller wire wrapped around it- but it's about half as tall (and actually feels like higher quality). it works just fine. maybe slightly less sensitive if you're in the middle of nowhere, but for the most part it works great and it only cost like $13 bucks. kind of a nice compromise antenna. I had to replace stock cause it was hitting my garage door.

What's wrong with "grampa's" Mine IS owned by a grampa. (who likes radio reception and can live without that extra 5hp) ;)

image.jpg have the flexible 13 inch from antena x and works decent. I mainly listen to XM and also use the Bluetooth audio mode a lot. The two FM stations I do listen to come in .

You answered your own question. Grandpa's still care about radio reception. I run MP3's streamed via bluetooth when in my vehicles & if I do want to listen to the radio (usually a morning show for instance) I will just stream it via the TuneIn radio app. This is better because I can record and skip commercials and when I pull up to a place, shut of my vehicle and get out it resumes at the exact same spot when I get back in and start up the vehicle. I really haven't listened to a radio station in quite a while and other than data use there really isn't a negative to this method. When I travel to far out areas where there's no data chances are good I won't get radio station reception on any worthwhile radio stations anyway so I'd be back to listening to MP3's again. I was mostly joking when I commented about the grandpa thing but the stock antenna does look terrible. I will still keep it in the truck somewhere in case some sort of radio emergency arises. I see myself kicking it around for a while until I realize that that mythical radio emergency will never occur and cast it off to some distant place in the garage.

Or Autozone and pay 3.00 shipping compared to 12.89 in shipping. Actually just bought it online for Store pick up and total cost was 13.80 with in store pick up in about an hour. Seriously 13.00 in shipping for a 13.00 item? I will put it on tonight and get rid of that stupid static box shorty antenna and let you know.

Does yours sit flush? Mine left about a 1/8 inch gap under the bottom of the antenna and above the antenna base on the truck. A tiny bit of the mounting screw was showing even when the antenna was tightened all the way. I had a some rust form there. I added two neoprene washers to the space, and all is good.
