Some dealership service departments are good and some are bad (as far as techs go). Exactly like any independent shop. And just like independent shops the quality can change overnight as techs come and go. IMO it takes an anal tool with a complete lack of perspective to forgo service that they already paid for just because they don't trust a stranger to perform maintenance. Its not a child for gawds sake. Educate yourself, ask questions both before and after the service, then check the work. Simple.

Instead of assuming your local dealer sucks because people online say THEIR local dealer sucks I'd suggest you go take advantage of Toyota's offer to do your service for free. Find out if your local dealer is awesome or crap on your own.

As others said if you are worried about it check your dip stick. Mark your tires to see if they rotated them, etc.

With the drive time to the dealer and back and they "Hang Out & Wait" at the dealer I skip the "Free Oil Change & flunkie wash job"....the fact that the Taco takes the same oil and filter as my 4.7 Tundra and I have a couple case of Mobile 1 and a case of filters says I do it myself. Plus I'm anal about my tire rotations...not sure why most dealers and many tire places don't use a torque wrench on the lug nuts. Takes me about the same time to do it all myself as to take it to the dealer and I don't lose the drive time.

My dealer has offered 3 years of complimentary maintenance and the use of a loaner if I call in advànce. To get the 3, I just need to have them perform all of the comps.

I am using the dealer for my "covered" maintenance and will cover my own service after it is used up. Been in for four services...no complaints here
