As well she should Sue, but With all the vacation trips she has paid for, I am spoiled:D. Just as long as she can pay her bills all is good.

Glad they missed you Cheech, hope there are no more heading your way.

A big Mahalo to you Ken!

When I got home today at 5, thermometer in the house read 100*. Never in my 25 years of living in this house have I seen this. Just another shitty day in Paradise!

On a positive note, fishing has been great this summer. Caught a 3 lb Papio on Sat. on a live Oama. Was ono! Translation for you mainlanders, Papio=Jack Trevally, Oama=juvenile goatfish.

I guess this weird weather has some benefit.

    Aloha.

That happens over here on the east coast too. When hurricanes are stirring in the Atlantic they tend to push moist, warm air our way. We end up with a case of the steaming muggies. I call it "hurricane weather".

 Finally getting around to catching up with the Cool Old Dude thread.

We got back from Chicken about 11PM Monday. Main part of herd still holding up in the non-trail accessible zones. We saw about 15 stragglers, none of them close enough for our group to get a shot. I kind of wanted to stay a couple more days, but when we woke up to snow at 4300' Monday morning, most of our group wanted to leave. BILs still enjoyed the experience and understand "that's hunting" ... I'm a little disappointed that they didn't get a shot at a caribou. :( Randy (hunting partner) and I may go back if reports come in that the herd moves into our zone. Season doesn't close 'til 30 Sep.

Checked on the crossbow legality here, only permissable with Doctors letter of disability to use a regular bow. Still think I'll look into getting a bow to increase my hunt opportunities ... Haven't used one since before I left VA 32 years ago. I understand the technology in them has come a long way.

Cheech, glad ya'll are safe. Randy's son and soon to be DIL are here visiting from Honolulu. They are enjoying "cool AK" ... they remarked it's been unusually and uncomfortably hot there this Summer.

    Hope all are well. :)

Let me guess, you're digging a hole. That's the way it is here too. I don't dig with a shovel, I dig with a pick. And I wind up with a large pile of rocks and a very small pile of dirt. There's a reason it's called Rockland Township!

    Morning all:
    Nope, surface rocks.
Guess that's what's to be expected when you live just off an area known as the "STONY RIDGE"! :annoyed:
I keep hitting them with the brush cutter blade so I figure it's about time to get some of them out of that area, at least the ones that I can handle. There are some there that I would probably need an excavator to move.

    Morning all.

I can relate. In most areas of the Texas Hill Country you don't DIG a hole .... you CHISEL it!

Been busy using my new Medicare benefits. Doc listed all the vaccines and procedures I should take care of. Stuff I've been putting off for years. Got my shingles shot yesterday. Last night I dreamed I was blown off the roof by high winds !

    :tumbleweed:

:pccoffee:  Happy Labor Day sixtys, wannabes, and Susan. We've been painting the house over the past week or so; washing down with 'TSP', making small repairs, caulking, then painting. We have everything done that can be reached from the ground or 20' ladder. Next up is renting the bucket lift. Sometimes I wish I lived in a different house.

My parents made the decision to leave their home of 52 years and move to an independent living facility. We've been helping them with the logistics, planning, packing. Plenty to do! And of course just about everything they pick up in the house triggers a story, so the days can be kind of long. But it's stories about family and friends and great experiences and so it's all good.

Don't get carried away man - I'm doing it for the free stuff.

Seriously, they do have to downsize a heck of a lot, and there is stuff like yard equipment they simply won't need anymore. We did the garden shed last week and I came home with a chipper/shredder that looks like it's from about 1980. Old L-head Briggs & Stratton motor. Fired right up once I cleaned the mouse hotel out of it.

Dad also has a Honda push mower; he said it wouldn't possibly start, it's been sitting there for a couple of years with gas in it. I sniffed the gas - didn't smell awful. So I figured out the choke and gave it a pull. 4 tugs and vroom, it's running. I was surprised to be honest; Honda or no, that's a long time for gas to sit these days.
