The rubber steering shaft seal that I put in the new firewall plate ripped. I imagine that it's the original one, so 20 years and 245k miles on it and it had some dry rot. I need to pick up a new one.

Well I actually got some time to work on it a little bit today. I welded on an exhaust hanger so the exhaust that's there wouldn't bounce around and cause any cracks (still have to run a full exhaust with muffler). I also got my rear shocks mounted. I ended up welding a tube across the frame rails and mounted them both behind the axle. No more bounce while driving, but a little stiff now. But, that is to be expected with such a light bed area and Chevy 63's. I plan on upgrading to radflos in the future to compliment the front end.

Started putting together my tool box of parts and tools. Trying my hardest to cram everything I can into my toolbox so it will stay clean and leave some free bed space for my spare tire and cooler.

I will be buying a Warn winch accessory kit soon to add to what I already have, and a few other tools like a big hammer and a big adjustable spud wrench.

    IMG_0029.jpg

So far in my ammo can I have...
2 u-joints (one for driveshaft, one for front axle)
spare lug nuts, both standard for front axle, and metric for rear
    stock Dana 44 hub
3 TRE's for the tie-rod. I need to buy 2 spares for the drag link as well
filler neck for my Jerry can

    more will be added....

    IMG_0030.jpg

Started on my traction bar as well. It will be the shackle style, built from 1.25" SCH. 80 pipe. Hopefully it will hold up fine, as it will be mounted just slightly below the driveshaft, so it can protect it.

I'll be watching the fab of the traction bar.

Need one real bad. Thought about BudBuilt but they have not returned my call.

    Good luck.

Excellent job. You gonna sells these?

Question, will it fit a regular cab short bed or is it too long? And yeah, I have a regular cab short bed... same question I asked Bud Built only they never got back to me.

    Thanks.

My truck is a regular cab short bed, so it would definitely fit.

I could potentially make a clone of this one to sell. Fitment may vary though based on amount of lift, and where your shocks are located.

    Nice to hear.

My shocks are in the stock location but I did the u-bolt flip and welded tabs to the housing for the shocks.
Looking at your pics, I could slide it towards the 3rd for more shock clearance.
    Your thoughts?

Also, is the front going utilize a Heim joint?

    Thanks.

Dude this build is awesome! Great work!

Was there any science behind the way you mounted your rear shocks? I see a lot of guys go almost vertical with them, it's nice to see someone do something different.

Hey Todd, I know you might have mentioned it somewhere, but I'm too lazy to search the whole thread to find it, but did you do anything with your oil pan?

Could definitely slide it over, as long as the exhaust isn't in the way. And yes on the heim joint, the traction bar itself will be attached to the heim, and then the poly end of the shackle will be attached to the frame.

Main reason for them being mounted the way they are is because of the lack of space. Knowing I had a traction bar and exhaust to be built made the only feasible mounting position on the back of the axle.

Went with the trail-gear oil pan swap kit. It's just a new rear sump pan (2wd T-100 pan maybe) with the matching oil pickup tube.

Cool on the traction bar... I'll take one after you've tested yours. Let me know.

I hate to say it but, I ordered my oil pan kit from YotaMasters and received the TG pan kit. Haven't installed it yet though.
