It always seems to take a few tries to engage or disengage.

I've always came to a complete stop, waited about 2 seconds, put trans in neutral and then engage 4lo and hasn't hiccuped yet.

    YMMV

Just did the fluid not long ago. It always works right away when I'm testing it. But when I need it, it seems to take a few tries.

The way low engages (under 3 mph and only when in neutral) is to help it engage and not break shit. Every truck I've owned takes longer to find 4 low than 4 high. Not sure why even when those conditions are met it's such a bitch sometimes.

    Yup,
Once I found out what the inside of my transfer case looked like I realized why 4Lo takes what it does to engage. Lots more going on to get into 4Lo.

Hey all. I want to do the abs kill switch mod and I picked up this switch. I'm pretty sure that when wired normally the abs will be ON when switch is pushed IN and I'd like abs to be ON while switch is pushed OUT. Is there a way to wire the switch up so it works backwards? Some sort of relay trickery perhaps?

    Yup,

Your going to just have to run the existing wiring for the ABS wire you want to sever through the pins on the
relay that are normally closed, believe it's 30 and 87a,
The switch when activated will power the coil in the relay, so your 12V output from the switch to relay is going to pin 86,
pin 85 is ground for the relay. You won't use pin 87.

That way when you hit your switch, the relay turns on but is opens the circuit and your ABS is off.

The 'mod' (4 low trac mod?) is for 2009 or newer Sport TRD (or other non-Off Road TRD) Tacomas to give them some traction control while in Low Range.

Only a few special Tacomas had TRAC before 2009.

All Tacomas had TRAC from 2009 on.

The Off Road TRD 4WD from 2009 on has A-TRAC in Low Range, so don't need the mod, but all other models have nothing in Low Range, only in High Range (TRAC/ TRAC OFF MODES).

TRAC is limited slip using electronics and brakes to slow wheel spin and allow traction tires to get power.
A-TRAC is almost like lockers for stopping spin and equalizing power to both pairs of tires.

I apologize. I am looking to disable my ABS before the snow falls. It is horrible and dangerous

If you have no traction control then just pull the ABS fuse. Done.

Just a heads up, removing the ABS removes VSC if your truck is equipped with that. All ABS mods also turn off the VSC function. VSC, acording to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) report, equipped vehicles compared to those without can effectively reduce single-vehicle accidents by 35% for automobiles and 67% for Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV).

I only really need to abs disabled in snow right? In normal street conditions isn't it helpful?

If you aren't having any issues with your ABS you don't need to disable it.

If your ABS is going crazy then disable it the day the weather turns cold, but practice threshold braking before hitting the open road.
