I though I read in some thread that you can get a lifetime powertrain warranty on a Tacoma for just $275. That's crazy! I keep cars forever so that's definitely some great deal. Is it true?

The dealer I was with originally offered that to me..they offer it on all of their cars. However, he refused to give me the $900 off that another dealership did. Since this thing is going to be driven on roads by me, I figured I was well off enough to just have the usual coverage.

That seems like something we would certainly be interested in :fingerscrossed:. If you'd like, I'll ask our dealer tomorrow and tell you what I find out :).

Define forever. I keep mine ten to twelve years and have never had a problem.

This is one reason why I chose to forego the $275 and instead keep almost $900 by using a different dealer.

IF you get EVERY recommended service at EVERY interval by a certified mechanic or dealership. Those warranties, especially if they come with the vehicle for free, are a scam. If anything happens to your engine, you have to make a claim like you would through an insurance company. They will often deny your request for service on the first few tries. Like in that movie with Matt Damon, The Rainmaker

Read the fine print. All of it.

But you might ask if instead of a driveline warranty, will they warranty the frame, AC and electronics wizardry instead. That should draw an interesting response.

Hint: no insurance/warranty is slanted in your favor. Ever. Those that benefit do so at the expense of the ones that don't.
