I just checked my AC condensation drain to make sure it was free and clear but noticed that it drips directly on the frame, which has turned a nice red/brown from all of the lingering water. I added a 7/32" rubber hose to it to divert it away, but not sure if I should sand and paint that area on the frame. Thoughts?

I rerouted my AC so it doesn't drip on my '15's frame. Just for this reason , seems a stupid place to have it drip on purpose.

well yes its stupid but its done like that on purpose so people don't bring their cars in with a "water leak?" because they see it dripping.

and yes many people ARE that stupid.

the idea is if it drips on the frame it wont be "seen" dripping and they wont have to deal with idiots insisting there is a water leak from the engine.

the frame is coated so there should be no issue but as dust collects in that spot it turns to a dust film that holds moisture longer and has the effect of "increasing the odds of rust starting in that spot.

I suggest you wash it good then hit it with a little flat black paint, then add to the tube so it drips free.

I will add to anyone extending the hose, be careful how you do it, it should go straight down or to the rear. if it faces forward even slightly, then air force will keep it from draining while you are moving forward. also get a larger hose that fits over your stock hose, DO NOT add a fitting to extend it as this reduces the size of the drain and "could" cause a clog.

also if you ever suspect a clog in the line, use a shop vac to "suck" the trash out. blowing in it or pushing something in the hole to unblock it leaves the trash in there and it WILL just get blocked up again.

By adding extra weight to the end of the current drain hose, or pulling on and messing with it to attach a longer piece, you risk creating a leak at the opposit end of the drain where you can't see it. Instead of messing with it, I just spray a blast of fluid film on that part of the frame once or twice a year. My frame still looks brand new in that spot after three years with fluid film.

I already added the tube (see pics), I'll have to check the direction its facing. I'll have to try to get the rust off and paint it when I get more time to later. Just glad it's not gonna get water on that spot anymore

When was the last Major Blizzard in Tuscaloosa .

That the snow Plows and Salt Trucks were out in Force

Then they were out spraying liquid Brine on the roads 12 hours before.

Yes so many people are quite clueless about the condensation drain.

The amount of vehicles towed for just that !!!

I will not have this smartassery in my thread! :p

Btw I moved North.... still south of the Mason-Dixon though!

Last time we had snow in Tuscaloosa, they didn't cancel anything until it was too late.. we had 5 inches in a matter of an hour, and nothing we could do about it besides get out the backhoes and try to dump some sand down. It was pure chaos, known in the Southeast as the "snowpocalypse"... go ahead and google it, you'll get a good laugh

Anywho, here's how I did my hose to prevent the previous person's said "wind resistance":

    Cut it at an angle.

I wish I had only one spot that was rusted !!

I was down in New Orleans Years ago when they had just a little Freezing Rain I gave a State Cop a ride because he crashed his patrol car.

I can see Alabama and 5" of snow.
