I am looking at putting in a yellow top and I am curious how much a 2 amp Dog heating pad would drain the battery? Basically for keeping my dog warm when sleeping at night when we are out at hunting camp. The usage will only be for 8 hrs a night. would my truck still start in the morn? with and without an optima?

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
I think the factory battery has a reserve capacity of 120 minutes at 25 amps so I doubt a 2 amp draw overnight would kill it. If you are worried you could connect the heater pad through a low voltage cut off directly to the battery. You could also get a micro start jump battery just in case.

ok, it plugs into the 12v outlet so does the 12v outlets operate when the truck is off?

The yellow top is rated for 48 amp hrs (at least the one I have) so with your 2A load you will be fine for 8 hours but at 11 hours you will reach the 48A/hr limit and have to recharge it.
