I am planning to get new tires on my 5 lug before winter comes, I like the new BFG KO2s.
    However I am stuck between getting 235s or 30 x 9.5

I have seen plenty of 235s on these forums as well as many 31s, but 30x9.5 are less common.
Many people talk about them with the black box mod, but most people settle for 235s or 31s instead.
So show me your 30s, lifted or not lifted! Include your thoughts on their performance too!

I'll definitely be watching this thread. Just did the black box mod and painted the stock steelies black. Looking to do the Fat Bob's lift, but want to ditch the 215/70/R15 go-cart tires first! I have a 2011 5-Lug Access Cab 5-Speed and have been searching for hours and hours looking for 30 x 9.5 R15 pics. Thanks MountainDrew for starting this thread! I hope it turns up some prime examples

Well, just got the 30x9.5R15 BFG KO2s mounted on my blacked out stock rims with no lift - before I report on its appearance and performance I want to reiterate what my chief concerns were going into this.
    1. I was extremely concerned about power loss (it's a 2.7 5-lug after all).
    2. I was really curious whether or not I would need to regear for it to be driveable as it is my daily driver.
    3. Will the 30s be big enough?

After hours of researching and wondering how it would all turn out, I'm happy to report the following:
    1. Believe it or not, I just don't feel power loss at all. My gears are longer (Manual Transmission), but the fact that they are longer actually makes the truck feel better. When I had the stock go-cart tires, the gears felt too short in retrospect - your mileage may vary, but this is how it feels to me.
    2. Regear? NO. Not even a consideration, the truck drives perfect to me.
    3. Well, this one's hard - bigger would have definitely maybe looked a little better and the increased height would have been a bonus, but the truck performs great with the 30s so far. Anything bigger would perhaps require the Fat Bob's Lift or equivalent as others report. Also, going bigger may start the power loss concerns / regearing, but this remains unclear to me.

    Other Observations:
Confirmed that there is no rubbing with black box mod. The amount of space between the top of the front tires and top of front wheel wells is less than the space between the rear tires and the top of the rear wheel wells (truck sits higher in back) - not a huge deal, but that's what leveling kits are for and I plan on doing the FB lift to gain a little more height. The truck drives better than it has ever driven and I have no regrets. Additionally, the KO2s are QUIET - I've had KOs before and these (at least in 30s) are insanely quiet from what I remember from the KOs. I'll try to post some pics this weekend if I get a chance.

@pugnaxx how have the 30's been? How much is the speedo/odo off? What are the mpgs looking like, and how does it do in snow?

Hey @ivbyiv! The 30s have been good. The speedo is maybe off a few mph, but it's not bad. I'm sorry on the mpgs - I don't really track it, so I don't have a definitive answer on that one. As far as snow - since I got the tires, we've only gotten snow once and it was minimal, but they seemed to do well. I've got more info on my build experience here if you're interested (with pictures): https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-5-lug-bigger-tires-and-fat-bobs-lift.412240/
