    Hello Fellow Toyota enthusiasts!!

My name is Mike and I own a 2002 Toyota Tacoma SR5 V6 5 Speed 4X4 with 148k Miles. Looking to talk with people and learn all I can about my truck. That is the main reason I joined as i have an issue with my truck that has me baffled. When driving along in my truck everything is normal. If I slow and brake for a 90 degree turn (like onto a side street) there is a noticeable clunk/thump from what sounds like behind the drivers side front tire. I have gotten underneath and felt around for something loose or worn but can't seem to find anything noticeably wrong. Going to be pulling the tire off this weekend and checking everything more closely, but is there anything that is prone to going out or could be causing this sound?? Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Welcome!

Does this happen turning on both sides? Is it only on sharp turns? How long has it doing this? Some questions to ask. Maybe try to get some audio/video if possible.

Hello 540, It's only been doing it for about a month, and it only does it once every trip out. It does do it no matter which direction I turn and only on sharp turns while braking like onto a side street. It started as barely a little clunk. First time I heard it I wasn't sure if just a rock had kicked out of my tread but has gotten a little louder since then into a definite clunk/thump. The other odd thing is that when I first really heard and became aware of it was I had noticed that I would complete the turn and be 20-30 feet down the side road when I would hear it. but it is now doing it as I am turning.

I can try to get a video or audio of it, but like I said it isn't every turn and not sure if it'll happen on the first turn or the tenth turn! LOL That's what has me baffled. I am going to be checking the ball joints as well as going over the brake system very thoroughly this weekend. I am not sure what damage I may do so I have been riding my motorcycle to work until I can get it looked at. But with winter fast approaching I need to find this issue!!

Check the u-joints and carrier bearing as well just for fun. It's strange that it only does it once though. Post back what you find when you get under there.
