Yeah, if you unbolt the front of the cat, you will get a p0420 and CEL. This doesn't effect the running of your truck. If it works with the cat unbolted, and doesn't with it connected, it means you melted the cat and it's plugging the exhaust.

Drain your fluids! I got water in the rear end of a vehicle one time and it ruined a wheel bearing, which then froze up and cut through the rear axle while I was going about 50. Losing a wheel at 50mph on an 11,000 lb motor home will get your heart going. Losing an axle in a taco at speed would be no foolin scary as well.

Your truck is an alien....no lift, no trimming running 33's and no rubbing and no cat converter and no CEL.

Usually when a guy drops the converter ya gotta get a simulator in place of one of the o2 sensors to send the proper signal to the ecu to avoid the cel. I can't remember who makes them though...urd maybe?? If you ever end up popping a code for it in the future you'll have to get one to get rid of the always annoying CEL.

Well I dunno...its possible I suppose, I'd expect it to stay on constant but maybe not? Typically a flashing cel is very bad sign, like, shut down immediately and seek a health care provider lol. But it could just be coming on and off rapidly cause of the exhaust change, maybe, I really don't know though...

Anyone else have any insight into this??

    Sorry for thread jack!!

A CEL that is flashing indicates a misfire...That could be a 100 different things. Start simple. plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Make sure its getting air and fuel.

Correct, severe misfire. Such a condition could be caused by wheel slip when 'being rough on her'. In any case the light is flashing to warn you that youre damaging your catalytic.
