AT3's or S/T MAXX??? Daily driver prerunner so no big off roading. Still want to maintain smooth and quiet highway ride while having the confidence to drive through the mud, creek, or hill to get to the best camp site or fishing hole.
    Appreciate any help deciding

Cooper ATP's, or the at3 if I had to choose between those two.

    X's 2. I love my ATP's but I off road often.

If I was you, I would get Michelin MS2's and call it a day. Why people who drive 2 well drive trucks and don't seriously drive off road roll around on mud terrain tires or other serious off road tires is beyond me. Get what you actually need, the best road tire that you can take to your favorite fishing spot with ease, and that is the Michelin MS2's.

Agree totally with the Michelin MS2's unless you want the A/T look. Cooper tires are pretty cheap compared to Michelins but still great quality and performance. I don't think you can go wrong with a set of AT3's.

I have the AT3's on my truck, and I've liked them for ice/snow and anything on dirt/gravel. However, I've spun tires trying to accelerate fairly quickly at a stop light when it was 100 degrees F on dry pavement. I've also had them slide a couple times on wet pavement when hitting the brakes suddenly. I was probably going about 25 mph and didn't put the brake pedal on the floor. I just had to stop fairly quickly, and was really surprised when they slid like that.

Again, I like them. They look good and are pretty quiet, but I can't deny the 3 or 4 times they've lost traction in situations that didn't seem like they should have.

I hear ya, I've seen it once on my truck and back on 4th of July weekend i was on my way home from clarion county headed to Pittsburgh and i was about 5-6 car lengths behind this lady in a Nissan altima and she went around a blind corner and something was in the road and she stopped completely and i slammed on my brakes from 55 mph down to 10 mph and bumped her bumper and the tires stopped the truck pretty well. Was defiantly surprised it brought the truck to a halt that quickly in 5 car lengths. Didn't damage my truck at all but the car needed a new bumper and a tail light and a trunk.

I have had a set of ATP 265/75/16's on stock suspension all summer. Off road and commuting from Aspen to Denver and these tires are awesome! No loss on gas mileage, improved handling, and awesome for easy or moderately difficult off-roading. Great deals through discount tires direct on these boots too. When I get my lift I'm just gonna size up on the same model.

I defiantly think that if you air down the 4 ply to 15 or 20 you should be fine on the beach, the 4 ply will defiantly give you a way better road ride!!!!

I've always ran P series and currently have P265/75/16 Cooper A/T3's on my Taco. Very pleased all around. They have a $70 rebate through next month. The P series are rated for more weight than a C rated LT tire and exactly the same as D rated tires. You don't get a heavier rating until you go up to E rated tires. At least with Coopers. I've not looked at the specs on all brands.

OP, I've always liked Perelli Scorpion ATR tires for the sort of driving environment you've described. I've never had an issue with them: excellent traction and long life. I think 70-80k mi is the best I've gotten out of a set. Just wanted to throw this out there as an alternative.
