cliff's: 2015, tailgate is loose and moves side to side and fore aft, when down. tailgate is solid when latched. looked at 3 other new trucks, all of them do the same thing...

couple months back i traded my 2011 in for a 2015. recently, i noticed the tailgate moves around when it is down. i noticed this when i was standing on it, while loading one of the bikes. i didn't remember my 11 ever doing this. while passing by in my work vehicle, i stopped by the dealer, checked out other new trucks, all of which did the same thing. they still had my 2011, and i checked the gate. solid as can be, with no movement at all.

couple days ago, i stopped by service with my new truck, and asked about it. got the typical "it's normal". o_O my old truck is no longer there, so i could not prove it was perfect. :annoyed: it is trivial, but i do occasionally carry things with the gate down (multiple bikes, occasional small boat etc) and i don't want it banging around back there...

overall, i am very happy with the deal and the replacement truck, but this is one issue that irks me. anyone have this issue or a fix? :fingerscrossed: thanks!

    Never seen one do that.

Seen the hinge break, but never wobble like that

My new 2015 does this too and I don't recall my 2008 moving around the same way.

My 2010 and 2007 did not but my 2015 does. Wonder if there were issues that a looser interface at the hinge points that they think might have solved?

A video of an older Taco would be nice. My 2014 is loose as well.

The tail gate comes off they have to have play or you would never get them off or the hinge would rust up and you wouldn't be able to get it open it sits hard on the hinge it's not going any where.

On my '15 theres the normal wiggle just prior to the tailgate resting by itself. Otherwise solid.

Just imagining the geometry in my head - if the support cables are of equal length, then the gate should push itself back toward the truck from gravity equally.

    make sense? pre coffee

Youtube was taking forever so i cancelled the upload. Need to reset my router this evening and try again.

My tailgate only wiggles side to side when all the way down. I have to lift up on it a little to take the load off the cables and make it wiggle like you guys' tailgates
