hey guys... I recently installed Philips brand LED reverse bulbs in my '14. Several people reported much better visibility with the upgraded bulbs installed, particularly on the back up cam screen. The light output seems fine on mine but the view in the back up screen sucks. It's almost like when you used to see that black and white snow on a TV that wasn't on a channel. Tons of noise. When I back right up close to something it gets a little better but it's still pretty snowy/noisy. Any thoughts? Bad settings on the display?

I've seen this complaint a few times with replacement bulbs. I've noticed less problems with genuine back up lights like LED pods.

    Subbed for info.

I noticed a difference going from stock to silverstars. Much improved and i attributed it to the whiter light (^you might have been in on that convo). So I thought that the LED would react similarly. Nope.

I tend to find the Silverstar threads.. :anonymous:

I love mine, and still ticking away without issue - now my truck is 2 years old (as of Labor Day).

I think the issue is the camera, and it having a hard time. If you look up the guys running pods in the bumpers, the camera is super clear. Not sure if the light spills into the camera lens or if maybe there is a hot spot of light created that gives it trouble or what, but would be interesting to compare.

I plan on adding some bumper pods at some point, if nothing has been done prior to that I'll take some before/after shots of the back up camera display.

I'm going to give it another run tonight. Someone in another thread said he gets a great on-screen image with the same bulbs. He has a '15. I didn't think there would be much difference in my '14, but seemingly there is.

Great to hear your SS are still running strong. I'm really liking the Philips VisionPlus +60% that I ended up with. The high beams are awesome. Lows are better than stock, but don't notice much difference running around town. It's on the highway that they really blow me away.

Good to hear. I don't believe the camera or head unit changed at all from 2014-2015.

Would love to see pics if you're able to take them!

I ended up adjusting the back-up camera display. I didn't realize that you could set the "back-up camera display" independent of the "driving around" display. So, I was able to keep the display dim for driving, but it brightens up when I put it in reverse. Big difference! I'm now getting a good image on the back up screen. These bulbs put out a lot of light. Lit up the entire side of the building next door from about 100 feet away. I could see my shadow perfectly on the building. this pic is from my phone- I focused on the light so as not to over-expose the image. As such, it's a very poor approximation of brightness. they're blinding if you squat down to eye level. sides are much better lit than with the stocks for sure. you can see how they compare to the incandescent license plate lights (for what it's worth).

How'd you get into those settings? Got a pic of the in cab display for the back up cam?

I think I went to the apps screen and then "display" (I know it was the top row, far right icon once I was on the apps screen). It was just two clicks to get me there--- Press one of the three actual buttons left of the screen (apps) and then one on-screen tap (display). And then there were two options available- "display screen" and "back up camera" or something like that. You could then select and adjust either one independently. I had the headlights on when I did it- there was a little box to select at the bottom if you wanted to adjust "day mode". I'm probably off on my wording, but that's as best I can remember. I can look again tomorrow if you need me to.

I tried to take a pic of the screen while in reverse, but the pics were all crap. Let me know if you have any other questions. Now I can say $23 well spent. Last night I was hesitant.

Are these bulbs plug and play or are these the bulbs that need the prongs filed down?

if you order from Amazon be careful- there are two options--- a single pack and a two pack. someone here accidentally ordered the single pack. so just double check.
