Because they don't want to give you a loaner?
Why ask them when you already know?????

My truck is an 05 and has been at the dealer since Dec 12, 2014. When they told me they were going to keep my truck, give me a loaner, and pay for all work to be done, all I could say was...I love Toyota! Who else would spend all that money on my 10 year old truck? Damn fine company and yes mine was washed regularly and the underside was clean as a pin.

That is why the little lady drives an Avalon, my daughter drives a Camry, and my son-in-law drives a Sequoia.

Oh Benny, we're getting close. The above statement is logical, and I agree with it.

The problem is that the areas of the frame that can't be washed seem to be the most common problem areas.

The section I've mentioned before, by the cats: A fully boxed section that by all appearances seems to rusting from the inside out.

Do you see how that might be a problem Ben?

That section (near the cat) is not fully boxed.
You can actually reach right in there - just follow the brake lines on the drivers side - totally empty on the passenger side.

It's open for the vast majority of the run. It only becomes boxed just before the cab mounts.

Personally, mine is sprayed with fluid film.

I also hose it out occasionally.

But gee whiz, calling me by name is sure intimidating. Garsh!!!!

I'll actually make one final comment and then leave you to your pity party:

Those of us in the northeast know that trucks rust.

Dodges it's the doors and rear spring hangers.

Ford superdutys it's the beds, cab corners, spring hangers, rear brake backing plates.

Toyotas from the 80s it's the beds.
From the 90s it's the doors and tailgates.
1st gen tacomas ITS THE FRAME.

Like most of us, I bought this truck knowing that earlier models rusted. I also know that they use a wicked lot of salt up here in New England.

Because of that fact I'm trying to prevent the rust that will occur. It's a chemical reaction. Salt is the catalyst.

The new frames you're getting are no different. You just won't own the truck when this next frame rots and Toyota won't give a 3rd frame.

If you don't wash this one it will rot just the same.

It's like saying that you thought you heard a train, the gate was up, walked on the tracks and got hit. Is it your fault or the company that made the gate?

    I'd say both.

We all know these trucks rust. We all know how to prevent it.

    Good luck.

You nailed it. Everything in this part of the country rusts eventually. Prior to my Tacoma I had a 99 ram heavy duty that I loved and kept in immaculate shape. And while the frame was not as bad as some of these Tacoma frames it had some rust, while 3 of the 4 doors had incurable cancer and above both rear wheels was just as bad.

These frames on the tacos have their flaws for sure but I'll tell you what Chrysler wasn't sending me new doors or a bed, and if they had I would never have bought another truck.

I understand the frame is a separate issue due to safety but at this point I think most Tacoma owners understand the previous frame issues when they buy. I did, and if my frame needs replacement in ten years and Toyota wants to foot the bill I will be pleased, even if it takes a few months.

It may be an inconvenience but a brand new frame after 10 years of ownership is better than a surface rusted GM, Dodge or Ford frame that I know wouldn't be replaced no matter how bad it gets.

My 05 has been at the dealership 5 weeks with not a word from them. I had no idea it could take four or 5 months. They gave me a brand new dodge 1500 and don't get me wrong I grateful but my Taco is a work truck too and I get worried of banging up the dodge seeing as they have my credit card. Guess i will learn to be patient...
