Looking into getting a new intake and came across the URD. Looks good and all but being positioned right behind the grill wouldn't it be susceptible sucking water? Like if you go through the wash or are in a heavy rainstorm? Just seems a little exposed. If you guys have one is this an issue? If so how do you overcome it? I definite get the idea of getting it outside of the engine bay. Thanks!image.jpg

I currently have one with the splash guard and I've gone through water, car washes, and rain and I haven't seen a problem with it yet.

URD TCAI is the best intake option (except if you stick with stock or go boosted). If you are worried about hydrolocking get the splash guard, I did and I haven’t looked back.

Besides, intake air will NOT be any cooler than stock when approx 45 mph.

    Proven with Scangauge, and ultragauge

I’d like to see those results. I’d rather get air from the grill out of the engine bay then through a fender in the engine bay.

Buy a gauge..... I already know it for fact..... Ran URD, afe, stock, and k&N.

Don't buy into the hype, its all sales bullshit..... The only issue with stock is the internal baffles/chambers built into almost all OEM intakes to keep down noise.

    The rest is just gullability

    Ur fender draws ambient air.....

How in the world can u EVER draw colder than ambient in our trucks without some cooling setup?

    The math is simple

With thousands into the blower, exhaust, ypipe, headers, pulley...... Don't think I've skimped on trying to find the coolest intake temps on the market, trust me

Hype based on the best pull, in optimum conditions, with air conditioner blowing cold air into the path on a dyno in a cooled garage at lowest altitude anyways

Have had mine on for 3 years now with the splash guard (IMHO the sock makes the intake a total waste). I live off the Gulf coast, so it has been through many rain storms with no issues or stumbles.

I don't discount Justus' experience as he has a good rep, but I have not heard of anyone else with this particular issue.

This is very much true. I have had the stock, a Volant scoop plumbed into the stock TB box, an aFe Stage II SI, and a URD. The differences in those at 30+ mph is only 1-2 degrees. There are some bigger deltas with heat soak though at idle, or low speeds that I've seen. URD still stays 4-5 degrees at low speeds and heat soaked. All the others will go 15-20 degrees over.

End of the day, you just need to figure out what you want. You may get a few HP from high-mid to high rpms from an intake for an NA setup. If you ever cross high water, do not get a URD. URD also requires some cutting of the sheet metal next to the radiator.

There have been numerous accounts. URD actually recommends the splash shield because it is such a common knowledge issue. What's strange is that the don't just make it part of the kit.
