Check for codes, if you have an autozone or advanced auto they do it for free.

Ask around for a reputable mechanic. One that will give you a fair price on the parts and work. Even better, have a knowledgeable man( father, husband, friends husband, guy friend) take it to a reputable mechanic. Mechanics have a nasty habit of taking advantage of women that know little about vehicles.

What he said... It may be as simple as a fuel filter or spark plugs and wires. If you take it somewhere and they tell you it is something really expensive get a second shop to look at it.

Dealer. You'll pay, hopefully you get a good dealer. There is a price for no knowledge. Try to get what you can from here, good luck!

Or try local mechanics etc. Maybe you'll get lucky.

I would start with a tuneup, it sounds like you have a minor ignition miss...but like others have said, be careful chosing a mechanic.

Are you planning to use anything we tell you to fix your car yourself? Youre going to royally piss off any mechanic you take your truck to by telling them what the problem is from something you read off an online forum. I have a feeling thats what the information in this thread is going to be used for.

If you choose not to fix it yourself, your best bet is taking it to a experienced Toyota mechanic (not a Firestone or Pepboys, they're all idiots; not the dealership, they're all thieves and idiots), and doing your best to specifically describe to them the issue, what exacerbates it, what diminishes it.

I dont mean to come off as harsh, but as a auto technician, i would make a point to charge extra to people that brought a car in, then tried to instruct me on how to fix a problem they knew nothing about.
