Discussion in 'Performance and Tuning' started by Annolino122, Sep 15, 2015.

?

Which kit is gonna allow me the most power for the money and most "upgradability"?

  1. TRD SuperCharger

  2. URD SuperCharger

  3. TurboCharger Kit

Alright guys, my next purchase will be to save for a turbocharger or supercharger, and I'm trying to figure what is the best option for my truck.

I've read a good amount of reviews on the TRD Supercharger, and came to the conclusion that even with the 2.85" pulley, its not that "stick you to your seat" power. So here are my questions to try to start to narrow down the path I want to follow.

Please don't bombard me with criticism or any other insults, I'm trying to figure which option is going to get me the most power for my money. Below are questions for each option. All my questions are referenced to the feel of having power. I owned a WRX with close to 295whp, when I got on it, it "stuck me in my seat". A buddy of mine also has the supercharged Tundra and that thing can fly, and sticks me in my seat too. I know its the difference between a truck and a sports car, I know the power to weight ratio is way different, but I want to have that "wow" power in my truck.

The 3 options I am currently looking at are the TRD & URD SC, then the Turbo Kit.

    TRD SuperCharger Questions:
1.) Does a retune by a performance shop to add boost get you to that power range?
2.) How much power does the aftermarket pulley add?
3.) What additional performance options does the TRD SC pair with to add power?

    URD SuperCharger Questions:
1.) This kit seems to be the most power, and be able to get over 320Whp, what stage kit does that entail?
2.) Is this a good supercharger?

    TurboCharger Kit Questions:
1.) Has this become common yet and is it reliable?
2.) What are the advantages in getting a turbo over the SC?

I am just trying to dial in what forced induction I want, and which is going to allow me to get the most power down to the road by adding parts to it or "upgrading stages"

Forget the TRD SC, they are gone unless you have $6000+ not installed.

Lots of posts here, give them a read. I'd go URD.

You have a 2014, you are prety much out of luck on all fronts for boost unless you can find a TRD unit that hasnt been sold. You are a couple months too late to the party.

Anything is possible, but yeah that would totally suck. There is no easy way from what I understand.

    So first is this

Seems Kris is also willing to help as long as you supply the parts. Lost of amazing info in there.

The "kit" with the most options, is a turbo system. That being said, can also be the most labor intensive due to all of the variables and an extreme range customability.

Second is is the URD s/c. If you get that kit, order it with the second to largest S/C from the get-go. Then add smaller pulleys as you please.

Lastly is the simplest bolt on kit. The TRD. Except now is extremely hard to purchase.

These are also in order of power potential, from highest to lowest.

Wire in EMS will be needed for the top two, unless you follow the first link. Then you can get a UCON or after market EMS and make it plug n play.

Curious...how much was the TRD SC before the announcement that they were going to stop making it?

From the dealer all over the place. $4000 to $6000 or so with fit kit, install cost from $800 to $1900. Was Dec 2014 when installed.

Dallas Yota had the best deal, $4400 or so free shipping for SC and fit kit.

My dealer was $5900 installed. After tax and rag bitch fees. $1k install cost.

Great! Thank you for all the information. From what I've been reading since all this new news has come about is that getting a turbo put in is going to be the new TRD SC. So i'll start doing research in that end

nah haha I'm honestly just gonna keep doing off road performance first, the power can come later once I'm out of warranty and have another car to get me from A to B
