    Hey guys, my new 5100's will be here this weekend and I wanted to pick your brains on the easiest way to remove strut spacers and put the new shocks on at home? I have a shop that will do it for like 500 with an alignment, but I hate to pay for something I can do. Biggest thing I am worried about is doing the spring removal and reinstall.

    x2, works very well as long as your jack is in good condition and doesn't just instantly fall when you relieve the pressure

    If they are charging you 500 to do that simple job make sure they use plenty of vasoline or, preferrably, KY.

    $500? Yikes. I didn't have enough time, a tall enough jack or jack stands to do mine. I had a local tire shop do mine + alignment for $400. Still kinda high IMO, but they're good dudes and a local shop.

    Is that 500 for the whole job? Or 500 if you bring them the shock?

    I don't like half assing anything with stored energy. Good on you guys if you do it like that. I won't, and I was a 20 year tech. Any decent independent shop would swap springs, or remove spacers.

    Like I said, you guys do what you want personally I wouldn't mess with these like that.

    I havent done this yet, but from what ive heard from those who have, it's super fast and it saves $$$. If you got money like that then by all means pay a shop. As people understand how to do things easier and safer, naturally it makes sense to do it that way. Why pay someone to do it when you could do it faster yourself without the danger to boot?

    Very simple, just make sure and get the truck up high enough on stands that the lower control arm has plenty of room including the jack to swing down and give you room to get the longer assembly back in. The jack needs to be directly under the LBJ to compress the suspension back up.

    500 is if i bring them the parts and they align it I am guessing if I take it to get aligned somewhere else it would save me 100 . as i have lifetime alignment at firestone

    Do you guys think ill have any issue with the zero point calibration issue after I swap out all my parts? the truck hopefully will sit "normal" as it does now
