If you've heard Lee Brice sing this song, you might just understand how special my Tacoma is to me. My older brother bought her new in 2007, a Super White Double Cab 4X4 V6, with the TRD Sport Package #1 and the V6 Towing Package. He drove it only 28,000 miles before his death in 2010. None of us cared about his money or his "stuff" as we dealt with his death, but he made it clear that he wanted me to have his truck.

I've visited TacomaWorld now and then to pick up tips and techniques, but I didn't join. I ticked past 100,000 miles this week, and next week will be five years without Dave. I suppose I'm being sentimental, but I felt compelled to introduce myself to a group that loves their Tacomas like my brother loved his.

Thanks for listening, and for helping me keep my brother's truck running strong.

    Chad

    "I leave that radio playing
That same ole country station where ya left it
Yeah, man I crank it up
And you’d probably punch my arm right now
If you saw this tear rollin’ down on my face
Hey, man I’m tryin’ to be tough
And momma asked me this morning
If I’d been by your grave
But that flag and stone ain’t where I feel you anyway

    I drive your truck
    I roll every window down
    And I burn up
Every back road in this town
I find a field, I tear it up
Til all the pain’s a cloud of dust
Yeah, sometimes I drive your truck

    I’ve cussed, I’ve prayed, I’ve said goodbye
Shook my fist and asked God why
These days when I’m missing you this much

    I drive your truck..."

Man, that song has been a favorite of mine since the first time I heard it; it always made me think of a young airman I knew here on Elmendorf who we lost in a truck convoy IED incident in Iraq early in the war. For some reason the concept of the song just made me think of Carl. Before he deployed, he regularly drove the crew buses that would pick up our aircrews and I spent a bit of time BSing with him while waiting for airplanes to block in from time to time. Sorry, didn't mean to get side tracked. From now on, when I hear it, I'll think of your brother and you as well as Carl.

I'm glad you chose to introduce yourself and share your story. Your brother is pleased, I'm sure of it. Welcome, and I hope your Tacoma continues to bring you comfort and enjoyment, exactly the way Dave wanted. :)

I know how you feel. My Grandad left me the truck when he died. My mom says its because I would take care of it best. I only wash it weekly lol. Just take as good of care of the truck as you can, your brother will smile down on you for the effort.
