Anyone have a fix for a lost insert on the control knob? Actually, the fan and temp knobs also have the same metal insert.

While doing something behind the dash, I lost the insert on one of these knobs. The dealer wants to sell me the whole control mechanism. All I need is the insert so I can put the knob back on.

I have not had time to experiment, so I though I'd check here first on the chance someone has fixed this annoying little problem.

Find a Toyota vehicle in the local junkyard and get them out of there. Grab a couple. In the meantime cut a small strip of electrical tape and wrap it around the post

On vacation, so I haven't had a chance to find a used one or tape it up.

the little metal insert is part of the knob inself, all you have to do is buy the $12 knob and your good http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-2004-G...nob-/400805095670?hash=item5d51d868f6&vxp=mtr

all 3 are like that and it pisses me off that they aren't glued on so I used super glue to glue all the inserts in place on my knobs then I dont have that issue anymore so I don't loose them. they usually only pull off on the metal shaft knob but all 3 just sit in there so swapping them around doesn't keep it from coming off when you remove the knob.

the only issue I had gluing them was getting them in without gluing my fingers together lol
