    Hey,

Today I had the opportunity to check out both the Access and Double cab versions of the 2016 Tacoma.:D I was all set on purchasing the double cab, but was surprised how the rear seat actually flips forward (plus there's a little platform). With the access cab the seat flips backward. Below is a pic of the double cab versus the access cab.

Every once in awhile our 100lb dog will come with us. It just seems like the double cab will not work. This may sound silly, but is there any work around regarding this? If not, the access cab may be the best bet for me, BUT I hate how the rear door opens!

    Thanks

Double cab for anything in the back seat that isn't wadded up jackets or a duffel bag.

Why not but the dog on the seats of double cab? Or lay the back rests down too?

On the double cab the seat bottom flips forward like you've done but the seat back also folds down and creates a nice big platform.

Stick some black indoor/outdoor carpet on the back of the rear seat so when folded down it is protected and has a nice non skid surface for the dog.

As long as we are on the subject of Access Cab vs. Double Cab, I need some advise....

I don't have a need to put people in the back seat. So I would prefer whichever version gives more utility. The advantage of the Access Cab is the longer bed. The advantage of the Double Cab seems to be more storage in the rear seating area. I'm 6 ft tall and tend to move my seat back to the most rearward position in most vehicles that I drive. Will that rear seat still be able to fold down like in this picture with the driver's seat all the way back? If not then the Double Cab could be a complete waste for me.

Does anyone have one of those access cabs with the seats that fold up to the rear and a baby with a rear facing car seat?

My access cab is an 06 and the jump seats fold forward creating a nice large platform for the car seat. I don't know if I could mount it on the seat cushion and it seems to have less platform space with the cushion folded in this new design.

Were the newer second gens like that too?

Gonna have to bring the car seat to the stealership when my truck hers here before I give them any money...

I also agree with the hammock solution, and for my particular dog I found a ramp helped. This folds up and stores behind the drivers seat.

If you are not committed to the Tacoma, Ford has a more elegant solution to the Tacoma's clunky back seat, and access cab door(which they "borrowed" from Honda). I came extremely close to buying one of these, but plan on keeping my truck long after the warranty expires.

We have a 0 gen 93 Xtra Cab. What I like about the back side wing windows is that they OPEN! I am also a dog owner and this feature is one that is absolutely key for me. Why Toyota eliminated this is beyond me in the Access Cab. We rejected buying an FJ last year just for that reason as well as other reasons I shall not go into. Having the ability to open those windows is something you may want to consider as well if this important to you especially with a 100 pound dog. At least with the DBL Cab you can open the windows back there.

We are going to purchase a 16 DBL cab TRD OR. Love the posts of the back seat! They were very informative.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Coming from someone who has 4 large dogs, get a double cab hands down. Access cabs aren't comfortable for big dogs. If you had a chihuahua it would be okay but that's about it. My dogs hated riding in my access cab, but they have all the room they need in my double cab! It's a first gen too so it's even smaller than the midsize 'comas. Here's a pic of one of my dogs riding in the back. She's a big girl, our largest dog.

All 4 have ridden back there and had no issues as well. Double cab is the way to go for hauling dogs, people, or any cargo you want to keep dry.
