About to install my TRD skid plate. It is a Pre runner so no plans of going off road. I would like to remove the fact heavy skidplate but the instructions say not to. Will it fit without the fact. skid?

I installed my TRD front skid plate over (outside) the factory plate on my 4WD SR5. Then installed the further back skid plate. Both fit fine. The factory skid plate was kinda thin, but I thought it would augment the thicker TRD plate. I've scraped and bounced off stuff - though not rock crawling - and just have scrapes on the skid plates.

Sorry, I meant the factory skidplate is heavier than the TRD. Since I do not go off road, I figure removing a little additional weight could'nt hurt. I assumed the factory plate was heavier than it looked.

It can be made to work leaving off factory skid - if you haven't had a chance yet compare mounting points current to TRD and you will see what I mean - have some extra washers or spacers handy as you may want to mimic the thickness of the stock in order to get desired spacing of the TRD front edge to the bumper

I have a 4WD Off Road, and I installed the TRD accessory skid plate as per the instructions. I left the factory plate on. It took me about 30 minutes to install the TRD plate, because I had a little trouble getting the bolts to line up just right.

    The better coast
If you're hoping for better milage I doubt removing the factory skid will make a noticeable difference.

I had removed the factory skid and installed just the TRD skid plate once, but I wasn't comfortable with how thin the TRD skid plate was alone so I added the factory skid back and combined it with the TRD skid plate on top. Better peace of mind for me and I'm not much of an offroader either. If you don't have the hardware that comes with it, make sure to note that the two bolts at the top of the skid should be longer than the two at the bottom or else it won't spin thru enough to grab both the TRD skid and the factor skid. A 1/4 inch longer should do the trick. You can find them at Pepboys. That's where I got mine.

The factory plates only weigh a few pounds and so you wouldn't save much weight and having them on gives you a cleaner botter for airflow and prevents road debris from bouncing up into important parts of the drivetrain.

I didn't even know you were supposed to leave the factory skid plate on!? I've had just the TRD skid plate on for over two years now.
Guess I need to start reading the instructions better...:annoyed:
