I've been looking at the specs for the double cab tacomas. The rear leg room is pretty tight, it seems, compared to mid-size sedans and the crewcab GM twins.

I have a 2.5 year old...who is only going to get bigger. If I buy a Tacoma, it will be my daily driver, so I have to keep this in mind. Can you put a reasonable sized adult in the back seat and have them not hate you?

I had a 2003 Ranger Supercab with the middle-facing jump seats in the back. I called them the mother-in-law seats because that's about the only person I would put back there.

    Any thoughts?

I tried it out last week. Provided the front seat isn't all the way back, they'll fit. If it is, they'd better not have legs.

I have 3 kids10, 6, and 4. We went and test fit one. No problems. That being said I am 5'10" and my wife 5'5". I don't need the seat all the way back.

We also test fit a tundra. Tons of room. But gas milage in city is lucky at 11mpg

My two kids, 6 and 9 do just fine back there. Not worried about space until they get older. Had adults back there as well, there wasn't any complaints but it wasn't a long trip either. Only time I find it cramped is when we have all the camp gear, kids, dog and wife all in there. She feels the need to fill the cab with food/water for a month long expedition on a 4 hour trip to the lake. :notsure:

    Midsize trucks aren't minitrucks.

As long as the front seat passenger doesn't have the seat back too far normal size adults are OK for shorter trips with 2 back there, wouldn't want more than 2 in the back for more than a couple of miles. I've had mine on 5000 mile round trips with 3 adults twice and several 1000 mile trips. With only 1 adult back there it is OK. I did most of the driving on those trips, but spent some time there resting.

My son however is 6'3" and about 250. He doesn't like the back seat. I'm 5'10 and my wife 5'7. No problem for us.

A full size, especially those with full 4 doors have a massive rear seat with plenty of room. Those with the smaller back seat are about the same as the Tacoma double cab from front to rear. They are a little wider.

I'm 5'11" so my seats not all the way back. 6 year old in a booster and a 2 year old in a car seat no problem with plenty of leg room. Had friends over 6' back there many times, sometimes for hours, with not much complaining but some. more that the back wasn't reclined enough not necessarily the leg room.

When and if I buy this truck, I would like it to be the go-to for our around town adventures. If it's too tight, wifey will prefer to take her Sonata. I hate sitting in the back seat of her car (entry and exit is uncomfortable), I hate driving it (heavy and numb), and I hate listening to her complain about not having enough room if we take my truck, I need to be conscious of the rear seat comfort of whatever I buy.

I was all but sold on the 3rd gen Tacoma until I noticed the leg room spec. I'll still go check it out before buying anyway, but I'm not optimistic.

I really wish I would've bought a 1st gen Tundra double cab when I could still get one with reasonable miles.

Highlander yes, not sure about the 4runner. I have been in the backseat of those, not much space difference than the Tacoma. Weird but true.

My Wife has a highlander and it can fit any combination of child seat in there. High price tag though.
