My brother is actually an claims adjuster for Geico. He tells me (at least here in NY) that insurance companies can source parts from many places, to include SALVAGE parts off brand new wrecks. If this were an older car or if I was paying out of pocket, I would accept a budget minded substitution. But as Ive said (maybe a million times already) This truck was 3 weeks old....the insurance company better damn well be ready to cough up for nothing less than Genuine Factory Parts. Im going in expecting a fight. (Dont worry, Ill be civil.....but Im not budging).

How much lead time is there on ordering a bumper? I was hoping that Bumper Company so-and-so (Insert any brand name) would have them in stock and could just ship to the repair shop.

I guess that all depends on who you go with. Start looking at those vendors mentioned above. I like the Relentless, and I know when I get rear-ended that's who'll I'll go with. But right now his site says the lead time is 3-6 months.... He's a small shop though. There's gotta be someone out there with the right bumper already fab'd. Probably want to wait to hear from your insurance first too - to know what you're working with.

@evilcorvette I found @robu 's thread. Took some lead time and waiting by my reading of it. But maybe worth it in the long run? Here's the link:

Good luck man. I'm sure your brother can help you work the insurance wickets and help you get a resolution you can live with. Sorry for your frustration at no fault of your own. Things could have gone much worse ... This too will pass.

That really sucks but not worth a gun violation.... that would be much worse and much more expensive. Hopefully he wasn't a "no speaky english" types. Then I would have just beaten him severely.

If you ever plan on selling the truck, don't go chasing aftermarket stuff now.

Get it repaired at the dealer with OEM parts.

And get a diminished value check from insurance.

Im not going to get into ethnicity, but I will say his socioeconomic status is substantially lower than mine. (and Im just a Soldier making E6 pay)
I was REAL happy to find out that he did indeed have insurance. He was on his way to work, owns a small janitorial business. I kind of felt sorry for him until they ARRESTED him for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, 2nd degree. That means this guy has had a slew of other traffic related offenses and was driving on a suspended license. This guy may have been trying to improve his lot in life, or he may have been trying to dodge the system, Ill never know. I just want my truck fixed.

As far as gun violations go...I live in New York. They throw the book at middle class white guys when it comes to weapons violations. Like I said, I dont carry often, and even if I found myself in great personal danger, discharging my weapon would involve my gun getting confiscated and a lengthy investigation. The criminal has more rights in NY than honest citizens. (bad guys CONSTANTLY sue when they get shot by cops or CCW holders) But THAT is another rant for another time.

I dont think the aftermarket bumper is going to work. The car is too new to start monkeying around with accessories that will detract from my resale.

the bad thing is that the history of the truck will always show it's been in an accident.

Well, unfortunately, the accident report probably already handled that. =( Might as well get a kickass bumper out of it.
