I bought my 99 Xcab 40k miles ago with 99k on it. Since day 1 it has had a horrible shake over 60mph. Not just a light shake, a crappy shake that makes me loathe taking my truck on the highway. I have had 2 sets of tires on stock wheels and my 33x12.5x15 on Wheelers type B....still have the shake (I do not think balancing is the issue).

I can grab both outer tie rods and they both rotate with some force, but smoothly.

I can wobble my driver's side (passenger does not do it) left and right (hands at 3 and 9) with the truck jacked up and sounds like a clicking from the inner tie rod.

I rotate the wheels off the ground and both sound fine, no grinding, etc.. (I can hear the rubber ball joint boot roatating which I assume is normal?

So could all the shake be from just a bad innner tie rod or should I dig deeper?

I read about some issues with bad tires and wheel, I had the tires that came stock, swapped for new Duratracs, then got new wheelers with new BFG KM2s.

tie rod has to be fixed regardless. Replace and see what happens. Can the shake be felt through the steering wheel? loose rack bushings and tie rods along with bigger tires can cause some pretty bad shakes. Ever been in a jeep that had the "death wobble"

Can you feel this in the wheel? Or the whole truck? Deal with the inner tie rods then see if that helps. If not, check your steering rack bushings or your u-joints. Check balancing as well

keep it simple, get an alignment. they'll tell you if anything is bad. a lot of peeps recently been saying it's their ujoints or carrier bearing when they say bad shake.
