Can someone with a 16 TRDOR please tell me if there is a brake control plug like my 4Runner has. Thanks. I'm thinking about a new Taco to extend my tow rating.

Question: If the 4Runner and the Taco share the same chassis and have similar engine sizes, why would the Tacoma have a better tow rating than the 4Runner?
It's about 1800lbs different between the two. Usually towing capacity is limited by the chassis. So if it's shared, why such a difference?

**Obviously asking about the differences between both with tow packages.

I'm willing to bet, but anyone feel free to chime in here if I'm wrong, that the 4Runner can handle just as much as the Taco tow wise. The difference may be things like sway bars.
You can likely add a stronger suspension (if even needed) or sway bars to your 4Runner for a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a Taco. The 4Runner is a beast. I bet it can outperform a Taco on most things.

Well to my knowledge and Toyota paperwork 4 runner doesn't have a true tow package. It says tow 4700lbs. I pull a small travel trailer (R-pod) and loaded its at 3500. The 4Runner struggles in hills and mountains. Shifts down all time and have had transmission temp warning light come on when backing into my steep driveway. The lack of a true trans cooler and gearing and transmission can change things. I love my 4 runner but feel like it will be torn up long term. I'm also thinking about Tundra but I travel a lot in the back country on forest service roads and think the Tundra crewmax will be to cumbersome.

If you decide to stay with the 4runner for a little while longer, you may want to change that fluid.

    Ahhh. Ok gotcha.
Are you gonna cry when you get rid of the 4 Runner? Those seem like awesome machines. If I was in the market for an SUV I'd go used 4 Runner (because new prices are beyond insane).

4runner chassis is based on the prado land cruiser (not to be confused with the land cruiser) which is shared with the FJ cruiser, lexus GX.

and the 4runner resale value is just behind the Tacoma, so unless you going 3+ years older, they are within spitting distance of a brand new 4runner if less than 2yrs old.

The 2016 Tacoma has the same type of setup as the 2015, though the connector itself has change to match the one used in the 2015+ Tundra.

I just went to install a trailer brake controller on my 16 DCSB TRD Off Road and found that the connector is different than the 2nd gen. As Jeff stated, looks like a Tundra connector.

It's behind the kick panel on the driver's side...remove the panel (it will pop out after you remove the thumbnut up near the foot rest). There is a large bundle of wires and somewhere behind that bundle you can find that plug...I just found it yesterday.
