I want to add a flowmaster super40 muffler to the truck but all the midas and dealers want me to get a full cat back system, and I genuinely believe I don't need that. Another muffler place said they couldn't do it because the exhaust bends up under the bed after the muffler, if anyone has a solution or a comeback I can offer to these dealers and shops. I know some folks here have them on their trucks without cat backs.

I've done a few on a F-150 and a Dodge 1500. We just cut and either added a turn down tip under the bed on one, did a 90 turn out in front of the rear wheel on another and the one Dodge we reused the full tail pipe.

Each was done with a long universal Magnaflow, but anything will go in fine if you get the right size inlet/outlets. All were done on our backs in the driveway with a saw and a few bends and clamps.

If the shop is trying to force another product on you then you might want to find another shop. Most mufflers can be installed on just about anything by getting a little creative, which it sounds like this shop is unwilling to do.

Find a place that specializes in "custom" exhaust work. When I bought a Flowmaster for my truck a few shops wouldn't do it because it wasn't a "factory" replacement, it had a different offset, so a new small section of pipe had to be welded in to connect the muffler to the stock piping. Easy job for any shop with the right supplies

Very much agree. A good shop can easily do the job.

had a flowmaster put on my 08. they just cut out the factory muffler, welded in a little bit of pipe on either side and put the flowmaster in. the only thing i didnt like is the shop i went to used clamps on the muffler (they wanted to charge extra to weld it in). I will say if at all possible go with a stainless or coat the muffler body with a high temp paint mine has started to show some rust around the seams, mostly due to the salt that they cover the roads in out in KS. But any shop can do it just need to run an offset in an center out. Was about $120 parts and labor. Hope this helps also can get a picture if you need on to take with you if you would like.

any half decent muffler shop should be able make this work. i had a flowmaster super44 with 2.5 center in/2.5 offset out and had to be clamped on the in and welded on the out. didn't take long at all. they made it work with minimal effort for about $130. going on 3 years and still holding up fine.

I once took my Mustang to a Midas just to have my flowmasters switched out with Mac Flowpaths. The guy literally asked me "why didn't you just buy from me? People shouldn't be allowed to buy online and ask me to put it on for them" I replied, well, can you get Mac Flowpath muffers? He replied "maybe, once I figured out how to get them, but you could have just got Flowmasters from me" I already had Flowmasters on it, but anyway he then asked me "would you go to the local grocery store, buy a steak, and then take it to a steak house and ask them to cook it for you?" I replied "yes, if they were willing to cook it for me". That was last and final trip to any Midas or Meineke.

Moral of the story, shops can do the install, they are either lazy or pissed that you brought in your own parts.
