Is it worth it to get it straight from factory and if not what size and where would I install it aftermarket?

Find a 15 with it and listen....You will know if it's good enough for you or not.

I actually listed to both with and without JBL in a couple of 15s on the lot before I ordered. The JBL system was worth the additional $700 IMO. I am not inclined to do any after market fiddling with the Stereo so the JBL Sub is the best I can get and it's good enough.

I test drove a '16 with the JBL audio, and I was impressed. IMO if you want decent sound go with the JBL. If you want competition sound, save your money and just go aftermarket.

Oh, are they in parallel? I assumed they were in series, like all junk factory installed subs.

What's the RMS wattage on that combo? My head unit makes 45watts max per channel.....

I have a sealed 12 with a 500W RMS amp to it in the truck of my crap 04 Sentra.
45 watts to any sub is pitiful

I'm no audiophile but it sounded good to me. And that is all I need.

Same here I don't need panel rattling ghetto bass. The system sounds great and is plenty for the small area it has to cover. most of today's music is bereft of dynamics anyway and played back as Mp3s in vehicles or compressed Satellite..Not exactly audiophile sources.

Test drove one today with JBL, on FM, it sounded like garbage with no range on them what so ever which is a given. I switched on XM Radio on a hip hop station and wow, I am impressed with the speaker system. The bass response was more than satisfying to my ears (i'm no audiophile either). Overall I am impressed that a stock system can sound so good!

I agree I only heard satellite radio, and it sounded great for factory. I want to try HD Radio, since it picks up that signal also.

    Hi OP,

This thread might answer a lot of your questions. I ended up going with the JBL package for better than basic stereo and resale value.

    Hope this helps.
