I just put some 6.5's in the front doors of my '14 DC. sound quality and clarity is definitely a step above the factory junkster's, but there's not as much bass anymore. bass is important to me, but I don't want a sub so cross that off the list of options please. what I need to know is if anyone has put some 6x9's in the front doors and noticed comparable, or better bass from them. I have a stock head unit and I know that's going to have a lot to do with it, but before I drop the money into a set of 6x9's I'm curious to know if anyone has done it and not been impressed with the quality of bass out of them. thanks!

The high's will be somewhat clearer, but the factory head unit at high volume will still actively reduce bass output provided to the speakers. You can have the bass turned up all the way up, but by the time the volume is at 1/2, the bass frequencies start to reduce. Think of a typical V-shaped EQ curve graphic -- when the volume is increased, the factory head unit automatically flattens the left most bands - even reducing them into negative dB terrority. Check for the JL Cleansweep youtube video from JL...it'll show a good demo via an RTA of the frequency response from a typical factory radio when the volume is turned up.

There is no way around it aside from replacing the factory head unit, which starts the slippery slope of a complete audio upgrade.

yeah, I've noticed. I want a new head unit, but I know what'll happen next. have you seen the cheap ass "speakers" Toyota puts in their vehicles? I was shocked at the quality of sound coming out of those things!

its a piece of cake..... I got 5 ways that were pretty tall, otherwise I wouldn't have to have ground down the door panel (I don't think).
Well worth the time..... Besides u may wait MONTHS for ********* to send u an adapter

I'm dealing with a similar issue myself right now. I just ordered some Focal component speakers and JBL coaxial for the rear of DCSB. Like you, I don't necessarily want to add a subwoofer but to get that full sound stage effect you will have to. As one person quoted on my thread....."Buy once, Cry once!"

I have the Infinity Kappa 6x9's in front and Kappa 5 1/4 in back with factory HU. Get the 2 OHM units (95 db efficient) this let you use the factory HU. Replaced the tweeter with the Kappa stand alone, it does a good job filling in the highs. The speakers do need a few weeks for breaking in. Also my HU has a "Automatic Sound Leveler", turn it off. It kills the dynamic range.
