Hi everyone, I have been a loyal Toyota fan since 1997. I rebuilt a 22RE for a friend who had a 1985 pick-up with 214,000 miles and had never changed the timing chain! The chain had eaten through the guide and had worn a groove in the timing cover behind the water pump and was dumping coolant directly into the crankcase! We dropped the oil pan to clean it up and found the thrust washers had worn down so much they had fallen out into the oil pan. So, he wanted to rebuild the engine but didn't have the money for the machine work that was needed with the rebuild. So we did an in-frame rebuild. When I pulled the pistons and rods out I looked at the rod bearings and there was copper showing on one rod bearing and it was one thin line like and piece of dirt had got into the bearing. All the others were in good shape including the mains. I mic'd the pistons, cylinders and crankshaft and all were within standard Specs! So we went back with the original pistons and rods and standard rings and bearings. That was in 1997 and I have owned nothing but Toyotas since then. I have put 4 timing chains on that vehicle and when he sold it a little over a year ago it had 689,000 miles and still running on my rebuild. So, as of now We (my wife and I) have owned a 90 Celica GTS, 97 Camry, 87 Corolla, 03 Matrix, 06 Corolla, 2013 Camry. Right now we own a 92' two wheel drive pickup with over 300,000 miles, a 2008 4Runner Urban Runner Edition and our newest addition, a 2011 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 Crew Cab. My 14 year old son drives the 92 Toyota in our pasture to get ready for drivers ed, He learned how to drive the manual shift in less than 20 mins!! I will keep that truck around so my 10 year old can learn also we he gets tall enough to reach the pedals. I apologize for the long thread, I absolutely love these vehicles and I will never buy anything else!!!! The pic is my son driving the new truck!IMG_20150905_160552170.jpg
