So, I built up my ideal Taco on the Tacoma build side. A grey metallic DCLB TRD OR 4x4 with tow package and roof rack. MSRP is $36,289.
I have heard a lot of people say they can get their Tacomas at Invoice or perhaps $500 above. How do I figure out what invoice is? What do you think I could get my ideal build for? Can some explain invoice vs MSRP? Sorry if these are n00b questions. I have never bought a brand new car. My current Tacoma is a 2002 that I bought used in 2008. Thanks!

The dealership does not pay that invoice price. That's a base invoice like MSRP is a base MSRP price. You don't pay MSRP and the dealer doesn't pay Invoice

They also get holdback at the end of every quarter. Read into my signature, below

Cool so it looks like the invoice of the TRD OR DCLB 4x4 is $31814. Adding tow package ($650) and roof rack ($399), I could potentially (if I am lucky) get an OTD price of $32,863? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

You have the $900-ish destination charge and tax, tag, title and possibly some dealership doc fees.

Invoice plus $500 is a good deal.....Here are some sheets you can print. DON'T forget to add the $900 Delivery Fee.

$34192 Plus Tax and TTl would be what I would shoot for

The X amount of dollars over invoice always sounds good....until you see the final purchase price including destination, doc, license, tax, and any other fees the dealer tries to sneak in there.

I have a TRDOR DCSB 4x4 tow and tech+jbl on allotment. Dealer quoted me $750 over invoice. Sounded great, thought I was getting sweet deal....then I saw the final OTD price of $41k... $900 dest, $400 doc, $570 license, $450 TDA, and $3,100 tax.

MSRP should include the destination charge. I would target 10% off MSRP but doubt you will get it with the hype on the 2016. Best to wait for stock to build on dealer lots. Probably 6 months or more.

MOve to Oregon,Alaska,Montana, Delaware New Hampshire no sales taxes or South Carolina sales taxes capped at $300 so the deal is really important and very close to the OTD price

Honestly, the only thing that matters is the "Out the Door" (OTD) price. Calculate what you want to spend including Tax/Title/Dest/Doc before going to the dealership. If you already know the vehicle you want, it should be pretty easy to do. If you have to finance, use an online loan calculator to see which loan works best...remember loan interest is negotiable as well...

Invoice & MSRP are meaningless prices when the dealer makes everything back in "fees". It's easy to think that $500 over invoice is a good price...but once the dealer has you hooked, the tendency is for us to overlook the few hundred dollars in miscellaneous fees when everything is tallied up.

Yeah, I've had a tough time making a decision. Started out telling myself $32k is my limit, so figured I'd end up with an SR5. Then I started seeing all the cool stuff that comes with the OR for a few thousand more. So, I told myself OR but $35 is my limit. But then I started telling myself, shit I'm already spending this much and I'm going to have the truck for the next 15 years, I might as well spend the extra couple thousand on the tech+JBL. So, now I'm staring at $41k OTD...and I started with a $32k limit haha.

But, at the end of the day, I'm in need of a new vehicle and this truck is going to be it for the next 15 years. Might as well get what I want. Sure, if I wait until this time next year, I might be able to save a couple thousand bucks. But I'm willing to spend the extra $$ and have the vehicle to use sooner.

Does Truecar add TDA fees to invoice prices? Sure looks like it. If so, should negotiation be done with TDA fees included?
