For about a year, FM getting worse and worse; lots of static esp when on the move. Fender antenna is fine; no corrosion and XM etc worked ok.
Problem was the connection from the antenna cable to the radio harness, which is under the A-Pillar cover.
Removed the passenger cover (2x10mm bolts under the hand-grab plugs) and cover easily pulls off. The connector was easy to get to and just unplugged and reconnected it securely. Radio came back to life!!.
Be careful if your model as an air bag and watch the reinstall of the cover so as not damage it.
Don't think connector was loose but it could have been. Also figure that all the windshield cleaner etc. and dust/dirt worked into the connector around that area. Unplug/replug scraped the connectors clean enough.
