    Hi all,

I was reading through the Funtreks books and was thinking to run out and try Sand Creek Road tomorrow. I have zero off road experience and was just looking for an easy trail to drive before the weather goes south. Think its beginner worthy?

    Thanks,

    Jay

I'm not sure about Sand Creek since I'm not sure exactly which one that is up there (I might have driven it, I might not have). Deadman is just a gravel road and you'd be fine. If you're looking for a scenic drive, up 14 or Deadman, cross via 103/Laramie River Rd to the other and down is a nice loop. If you want an easy trail I'd suggest others, like Sevenmile, Moody Hill, or Old Flowers.

From the book, I think "Sand Creek" is going north on 336 from 162 and coming out at 80C. From there I can connect with HW287 and circle back home I think. I'm new to the area and haven't been here before, just going off the maps.

Now that I look, pretty sure I haven't driven it. The drive I was thinking of I just took Deadman the whole way except for a spur over to where Green Ridge and Bald Mt trails meet. Started up Bald, but no locker, getting late, and watched a 1st gen bash out a brake light going up a little rocky hill tight between trees so I turned around. Found out later he didn't get much further before turning around himself because of another mud hole (we'd already been through two).

Mission accomplished. Like mentioned, Deadman is just a gravel road, a bit washboard at times, but fine. Sand Creek was 336 and started out similar, but shifted to trail and small rocks. Had a lot of fun. Didn't get back home until about 5:00, so 7 hours of driving total. Lots of cool camp spots up there though so I'm looking forward to going back and spending some time around the side trails over a weekend.
