I have a 2006 Tacoma with a 3" Toytec lift. Can I do 285/70R17 without rubbing on stock wheels?

No, the largest size without rubbing is 265/70R17s. To run 285s without rubbing you will need to do the cab mount chop. There are several threads if you search on it, here was one of the first hits:

What size tires are you running now?

    And welcome to TW!

Thanks for the welcome. I've had a few ppl tell me I wouldn't have to do anything but doesn't seem right.

Right now I have the stock 265/65R17 with the lift. Doesn't look bad for now. I'd like wheels and tires but short on funds for now

OEM wheels (assuming you have alloys and not steelies) are some of the highest quality wheels you can get. You can step up to 265/70/R17s (1" larger than stock) without any chopping. There are some big advantages to running those 32s (vs 285 33s) such as better mpgs, better acceleration, better braking and if you get them in C-load they will ride much better too. 285s are almost always E-load 1 ton truck tires which are much heavier.

Check out the 265/70R17 link in my sig for some more info.

No, 285's on stock rims will usually rub the upper control arms.

Cab mount chop may not be required, as various threads have noted that some trucks require it and some have plenty of clearance. I run 285's with lots of space before touching the cab mount.

I run 285's E-load in summer and 265's C-load for winter and hardly notice any difference.

Sparky is right. With 285s on stock alloy wheels you need wheel spacers otherwise you will rub the ucas. You may or may not need to trim plastic/cmc but that depends on exactly how much lift you have and what tires you choose. I have 285s and 2.75" of lift and had to trim some but no cab mount chop. Also depends on how hard you plan to wheel it.
