    No, you'd get black staining on the quarter panel from burning oil too. Yes, burning oil tends to create blue smoke and running rich causes black smoke and burning antifreeze/water creates white smoke. But that doesn't mean it stains things blue lol

    Rear leaf suspension. Home done tailgate re-inforcement.
    If the valve seals are bad, you get blue smoke on start up after sitting a few hours. The oil at the top of the engine leaks down into the cylinders and burns blue on start.

    Have you check it for leaks? That's a pretty good engine my 97 had 285K and never burn a drop. Valve seals can cause smoke at start up (dead give away) but that does not end there. There is a lot of oil up top and if the seals are leaking the intake seals will allow oil in during the intake stroke driving down the road and it probably will not be noticeable.
