Maybe. 25 mpg. Depends on gearing. load, and speed. Doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. Highway or town miles?

I'm not very versed in resolving the emissions problems. p0420 is "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold". If you have a new cat, maybe bad o2 sensors?

Sounds like your speedometer isn't calibrated.

How do you know how far you actually went? After re-gearing, did you also regear the speedo gear. Your odometer will be way off until you do.

use google maps to get directions for the 172 miles you think you traveled. see how long it says you really traveled.

While that's a good idea, Google maps can vary by about 10%. I wouldn't use it to calibrate my truck but it's good for this occasion.

There is a speedo app you can get for your phone that works well. There are several, but the one I use is "Speedometer GPS+" it's in the apple app store, but I am sure it is in the google play store too. Try driving it and using the app and it will give you the correct distance and speed.

so basically your stock. auto or manual? either way 65mph is cake and definitely possible if you stay at a consistent speed without shifting.

edit: also wondering how you know it's exactly 6.89 gal?

It's stock, got the gallon figure from refilling tank after trip. Gas pump may or may not be accurate. Got the mileage from
    trip meter.
I'm big time happy to get this good of mileage.

best I've ever gotten stock is 19.66 mpg, I calculate after every fill, have 6k miles now, truck is still new

engines can take up to 20k to fully break in and realize best mileage

new engines are the tightest they'll ever be, and don't get the best mileage vehicle will see

It seems possible. I've gotten 27 mpg once on my 98 V6 Prerunner. It's only cause I drove on the freeway for hours only stopping a couple times.

    Here's how I calculate mpg:
1)look at fuel capacity. Mines 18.5 gallons.
    2) fill her up
    3) reset trip A
    4) run till empty.
    5) literally divide the miles per gallon.

I don't like the gas tank method, it's different all the time for me.

you can't do it with fuel capacity.... that wont work..... you will never stop at "empty" unless you actually run out of gas.

you have to do it with how many gallons you put in by reading the pump.....

Yeah it's obviously give or take a few miles. I usually run it just below E. If anything, bring an extra gallon of gas.

You can also divide 18.5 in half and calculate the Milage at about half a tank, then multiply it by 2.

dude.. way more than a few miles!! that is so inaccurate. LOL!!!
sure, keep an extra gallon of gas if you want.... But your MPG readings are way way off.
when you fill up, reset your trip meter, then when you fill up again, make sure you fill all the way up, and devide the amount of gallons you put in, by the amount of miles traveled... this is the only way to get an accurate reading unless you use a scan gauge.

Deaver 2" AAL in rear w/ axle shims. 285 x 75 r 16 Goodyear Duratracks. Wheelers steelies type B, AFE cold air intake. Sway bar delete. Using the value for volume of fuel off of the gas pump works just fine for me. I wouldn't want to run my engine near empty for fear of running sludge through the fuel filter. OP, 25 is certainly possible for the 2.7 L.
