Not even a month old. Errant softball while traveling 45mph. Had IED flashbacks. Man was it loud. Have an appointment tomorrow with Safelite through USAA.

Now if my repair turns out like a previous post last week and a bunch of blind monkeys try to replace this glass......

Too damn bad. Pisses me off just looking at it, and it's not even mine. I don't think they can patch that. At least you have insurance. I'm sure this isn't the first time you've had to have a windshield repaired/replaced. It will look good as new before you know it. Thank you very much for your service.

Had to add: Being from the South I'm sure you'll know what I mean when I say, "Don't that just piss ya off"!

Better than hitting the hood. I got one about that size in my mustang a couple years ago. A fist sized rock fell off a trailer that a guy was pulling down the interstate. I was about 5-7 cars lengths back. Saw it fall and bounce with the perfect trajectory to hit the windshield right in front of my face. When it was in the air, I thought it might come through the glass and ducked over to the passenger side.

Same thing happened to my brand new truck after having it just a few weeks. Nice size rock on the freeway totaled my windshield. Pissed!
Safelight replaced it, the only complaint I have is that the new windshield weather strip protrudes with a weird "lip" makes it more difficult to clean the windshield. The factory windshield strip was mostly flush with the windshield.

Bed rug, ARE bed top, Weathertechs. Little goodies here and there!
    Safelite sucks.

Last time they did mine, dent in the hood and it wasn't sealed. When driving, sounded like it was going to fall out.

If you do have them do it, take it to the shop and be sure two men working on it and not using the one man arm. The on man arm is what caused the dent. Not only that, but are known for causing future driver window problems as it also hangs off of that.

Good to know about the one man show. I have used Safelite for as long as I can remember and cannot say I have had issues. Let this not be the first!

    Lol. Yes piss me off!

    Kinda funny--
The girl at claims asked, "Is the damage smaller than a quarter?"

My response,"I just told you a softball hit it. It's basically the whole windshield."

    Gotta love script readers.

About 25 years someone hit a homerun over the fence into my grille as I was driving by, turned around and went to the ballfield and the guy stepped up and bought a new grille for my car.

Ouch, that sucks, the timing involved for it to hit you while moving. Had a coconut fall out of a tree and smash almost though my windshield while driving, sounded like a bomb went off inside the truck.

I had a large rock hit the windshield of a BMW I owned. Insurance wouldn't pay for OEM so Safelite put in a generic. It was aweful. Windnoise was loud and just an all around shitty windshield and install. I ended up having them take it out and installing OEM (I payed the difference).

Check to see of your insurance will pay for OEM. If not, consider ponying up the diff yourself.

Safelite is the jiffylube of auto glass replacement

took them 4 windshields, 2 trips to the body shop and 0 customer service to do a simple replacement. i now have a repainted roof because of them and a spot that was repaired for rust/rot.

a co worker had his done this week by safelite and woke up the next morning to a pool in the front foot wells after it raining all night. when they pulled the glass again the tech only put adhesive half way around the frame.

I am not here to defend Safelite, but they have replaced 6 or so windshields on various vehicles for me over the years as they are the USAA contract firm. I never had a leak, or any other issue with them. The one time the glass was penetrated by a large rock they even vacuumed up all the broken glass.

Well. I replaced it the next day. I needed it done the next day as I was starting my 7 day hitch and could not go a week without replacing it. They were the only ones that I could find to do it. The installer did a good job.

I have USAA and I have had five windshield replaced by them without any issues. I will keep my fingers crossed. I think it all boils down to is how well the installer does his job regardless of the company.

Also, on a side note just because usaa uses Safelite you can still go wherever you want.
