What are your reason or reasons for getting the TRD S/C? Is it purely just because they are going to stop making them or do you need the extra power for towing and or higher elevations? Or is it just for the fun factor? I purchased mine because I knew I wasn't going to spend 4K on a lift, wheels & tires, amour, winch, lights etc. for offroading because I would never actually use any of it to its full potential. Now as for the S/C I used it to its full potential very time I drive it.

Get a TRD SC. It stays under warranty with Toyota which is nice. And WHAT!?! Why is toyota getting rid of the supercharger?!?

Don't think about it, just do it. Think about it, and you may never get one. Get one NOW, then you can think about your wise choice of spending the loot on one, LOL.

I'm looking to buy one also. I have a 2014 ..... Im seeing them listed as 2012-2013. Is there a difference between 2013 and 2014? Just asking because ive seen you guys talking about different plugs on the URD s/c for different years.
Anyone found a good deal on where to buy one?

    Here is my $.02.

If you have never supercharged a truck then go for it. I did it once and it was fun but in the end not worth it. Its expensive and affects reliabilty.

On my recent Tacoma I decided to go with a re-gear instead. Its better for towing with larger tires and has plenty of fun factor with mashing the pedal.

I doubt they are different but I would call the dealer and ask. The only reason why URD has different years is because after 2009 Toyota switched the Tacoma to a 6 plug ECU while pre-09 have a 5 plug ECU which Gadget manufactured the URD S/C to work with and now is having a hell of a time getting the 6 plug to work.

URD doesn't make a SC for the 2014. TRD does.

My take on TRD Supercharged Tacomas. I just traded my 2002 Pre-Runner that I bought new. The TRD S/C was installed a month after I bought it. The 7th injector kit was installed about two years later once they had introduced it and I was tired of the pinging.
I drove that truck hard for 13 years. Had 131K miles on it. Never had any issues with the S/C or the truck until about a year ago, and even then it was minor annoyances.
I did have to put new bearings in the S/C and replace the knock sensors.

The S/C on the 3.4L just made the truck drivable, especially in the mountains of Northern California. The extra low and mid-range torque that works at altitude is wonderful. Instead of the transmission down shifting continuously and the engine buzzing near redline just to maintain 70mph, you just watch the boost gauge climb.

I bought the new Tacoma today so i could get the TRD S/C on the 4.0L before they're all gone. Though the 4.0L shows simalar HP/Torque specs naturally aspirated as the 3.4L did S/C, the torque curve is all different. I still have to floor the accelerator in the 4.0L and buzz the engine to get up to speed. I can't wait to get the S/C installed.

Being in California, and not wanting to work on a truck every day anymore, (I'd rather work on airplanes or motorcycles now) the TRD S/C is a great option. And as others had pointed out before, a better power to weight ratio, than getting a V8 Tundra or a Ford again.

I drive pretty hard. No vehicle has held up as well as my '02 Tacoma did. I hope the '15 does as well.

I constantly pushed the truck to 7lbs of boost, later to a little over 9 lbs when the 7th injector kit was installed. ( I think it cooled the incoming air which then expanded to give the larger boost) The I put on the URD undersized pulley and got a little over 10-11 lbs. With the greater boost, the top end was more, but it felt like I lost some mid range torque. TRD did a great job with their package. Don't get all excited by peak numbers for the sake of a great torque curve. I drive hard, but I don't drive with the engine spinning 5200RPM all the time.

Sad to see TRD stopping their S/C program for the trucks. I can see stopping it for all the other cars. Originally they just had the Tacoma and I think the Supra. Then they got carried away with all the other engines. If they kept it for the Tacoma and Tundra, I think they could still make money with the program.

    My $0.25.

Let me know when you (or anyone else) decide to get the TRD SC. I can get you a decent out-the-door quote for one installed.

Toyota's stance on why they are nickin the TRD SC:

"Increasing legacy costs associated with the recalibration of an expanding pool of past model year vehicles, along with rising development/engineering expenses and evolving emissions requirements have negatively impacted the program's return on investment to the point where it is no longer financially viable to offer these products for sale,"

With all the emissions crap they have to strap on, the 4 CATs newer Tacomas have for example, is gonna start negating the power the SC puts out. Toyota doesnt want to spend the money on the program cause they know in a couple years it won't be legal in all 50 states.

Are there any complete turbo kits available with manifolds, turbo, IC and tune? The quality of kits you can get for various other vehicles is quite high, I'm surprised URD hasn't jumped into that market. Maybe not enough interest but if guys are willing to shell out 5K for marginal gains.... And I'm not talking about the ones that mount remotely under the vehicle either.

Why does everyone post this stupid video. It was a Borg Warner Turbo that blew up, not Chinese. Chinese, Japanese, US, doesn't matter anyways; it was user error that cause it to fail.

Don't buy the TRD Supercharger. Your engine will explode.

Thanks for all the info. Is it true a Toyota dealer has to install it in order to keep your standard and extended warranty? I asked the local toyota dealership service guy and he said no, I could install it and it would have no effect on the truck warranty. Not sure I want to go off one guys word though.
