My wife and I want to plan a camping trip in/around Asheville NC this fall. If any of you are familiar with some of the camping spots please fill me in. My wife says we need to go somewhere that has running water/toilets. Thanks for the help.

I've driven by Mt Pisgah campground many times off the Blueridge pkwy. It looks nice enough. There is a lot awesome hiking around that area in the Pisgah National Forest. I generally only camp where there is not running water/toilets.

I think the weekend we have planned is the one after the overland expo. I was bummed that we'll miss it.

Balsam Mountain was nice its like at 5000 feet elevation. We've only camped there once but it was nice had toilets and water to wash dishes and stuff. On the way back we drove by a place called the mile high campground and it had some nice spots with a view but i think it's not part of the park (Private I think).

My wife and I just towed our popup to Black Forest Campground near Brevard a cpl weeks ago. We picked that spot because it was close to the Dupont Forest where we did the triple falls loop hike. 3 awesome waterfalls to see ( 4 if you want to go further ) The campground was nice and the folks there are very nice.

Not Asheville, but I've camped at Mortimer, NC campground and the fiance' and I had a great time. They also have facilities/showers.
