I've been saying I think the 3Gen grilles are pretty good looking, and I have also been considering a 4Runner....but....

I do have to admit , these Toyota designers have a lot of balls, haha....I can't tell if I like the 4Runner front-end, if it was meant as a joke and just grew on me, or what....3Gen front ends too, I guess....are they intentionally trying to be controversial with these desgins!?! hahha

I hear ya, but I really am getting curious about what they are thinking at Toyota, because it use to be every damn vehicle was beautiful....now it's like I waiting for the next Sienna to come out looking like an angry rocket ship or something.

    You mean like this?

What you're seeing now are the results of Toyota's effort to make their entire lineup less boring. The new styling directive started about 2011. It's happening at Lexus and Scion as well.

    http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110926/OEM03/309269971/1117

In charge of the design metamorphosis is Dezi Nagaya, a veteran Toyota designer who dresses like he's on his way to a trendy Shibuya nightclub rather than off to work at Toyota.

"Toyota has been criticized for being quiet and nonoffensive, of having too friendly an image while lacking emotion," Nagaya said during an interview at the auto show here.

"We are going to be more dynamic, more masculine, sportier, with a more obvious design theme and a face to represent the company and the brand," he said. "We have eliminated emotion. We need to pump that up."

More about that sienna now that I properly derailed the thread.

    http://blog.caranddriver.com/toyota-builds-the-worlds-most-bad-ass-minivan-from-a-sienna/

"Perched high atop the chassis of a Toyota Tacoma pickup, this former mom-mobile now rolls on ultrawide, off-road tires and features cool, rear-hinged front doors. Fender flares and a new front bumper—both seemingly formed out of flat sheetmetal panels—add to the utilitarian look, while a front-mounted winch, auxiliary lights, and dark-tinted headlights create a sinister vibe. The SUVan is finished in matte black, naturally."

Why are the front door handles all the way forward on the front door?

Toyota's questionable styling started with the second generation Sequoia & Tundra back in 2007.

For years Toyota was panned by the automotive press as being too bland, boring, vanilla. As far as I can tell, people bought those bland vehicles for *years*.

Thanks for the input. That makes sense. I can't say I necessarily don't like the new designs...they definitely make ya think. ;)

That what I liked about the old toyota pickup... It was emotionless, it was a truck. They need to fire this asshole.

Eww gross. Get a load of that guy. Geez. This is the opposite aesthetic of what I appreciate in automotive design. The 1st gen Taco is my favorite. It was near perfectly proportioned.

Agreed. The styling on 2004 and older trucks is aging gracefully. I said it before in another thread, now it looks like their designers are smoking bath salts
