I have been hearing some odd sounds from the engine for the past few weeks... Popped the hood again only to find just about no coolant, and dried up coolant (seen in pictures).

I had a blown head gasket the was repaired not that long ago, and this started happening after...

the great part about the Toyota red coolant is it leaves a tattle tail when you have a leak, so you know where its going, coming from externally. the bad part is it makes a freakin mess !

That upper hose doesn't appear to be tight, band should slightly indent the hose, doesn't appear to in the picture. smaller hose from the water neck to over flow, that can be fixed with a zip tie if the hose isn't split. coolant will and does flow thru that hose in normal operation. if it isn't sealed, you will leak, then suck air in repeated cycles until coolant is low enough that it won't be pushed back into recovery tank. The leaking upper hose doesn't help matters.
I'd check all hoses on rad and engine that may have been messed with during repair. Some techs get antsy when they see the end of a job is near and miss details. not defending, just explaining.

after checking all hoses, shoot all with simple green and clean it all off ( might have to scrub a bit ), top off radiator and coolant recovery tank with appropriate stuff ( Toyota Red ) and run it and see what happens.

    What kind of noises? Pinging?

Check all the hoses like he said ^^^ and clean.

Replace if they don't seal properly.

Check again after a few miles. I am just hoping that you don't have a head gasket leak again.

remove accessory drive belt ( fan belt ) start and run the engine for a minute or 2, no noise means one of the belt idlers ( 2 of them ) the tensioner bearing ( 1 ) or water pump bearing ( wiggle fan forward and back ) is bad.

Sounds like one of those bearings to me. I'd replace all if you can swing it, they've likely all got the same miles and wear on them. replace the belt too

Thanks I'll try that tomorrow. When the head gasket was replaced they also replaced the timing chain tensor, could that have anything to do with it?

anything is possible, go for the easy stuff first, if none of those bearings were changed, loosening then pretensioning can disturb the way they ran previously, which can cause them to fail. old parts are just that.

Moral, don't wait a few weeks when hearing sounds.
Check the engine compartment after major work like a head gasket.
Like yoda said do a pressure test for the leaks, but it looks like top rad hose and overflow hose.
I don't like worm gear clamps. Use spring or t bolt clamps. They stay put & don't loosen up.
Your knock does not sound good. Could be a accessory bearing, but I think it may be the water pump.
    Good luck,& let us know.
    P.S. How many miles?
