I dropped wife's van off yesterday for initial servicing, at dealership we purchased it from. When I got home from picking it up, I noticed two chips in the paint that were brand new. I have zero doubt that they occurred while at dealership. Called dealership and they said to bring it in today so they could determine if they actually caused it.

Do I stand a chance at having them fix it? It's a special color so standard black paint won't work for touch up.

I know the chips are small but its principal

Shit worse than this happens at the local Yota dealer here.
My friends 06 got backed into by a service tech when she had it in there for a recall.
They paid for the repair at the shop of her choice. They knew they effed up.
Hopefully the dealership will be responsible and own up. Good luck.

    1) how does them looking at it determine 'they' did it, vs some other source? (in their minds, not yours)

    2) when you come home from the grocery and find new parking lot whacks, who you gonna call then?

The local dealer here left my oil cap off i found it 1500 miles later, miraculously still under the hood on my battery

I'm a realist and I don't deny the fact that I'm on the losing side of this one, esp since I didn't notice it until I get home..

Getting dings in the parking lot is really apples and oranges though compared to this situation.

If the dealer caused it then he has ever right to call them out. Yeah dings are gonna happen but that should not be expected when getting service work at the dealer.

You may have a case, but you'll have to be persistent. There was a similar instance that happened where I work. A lubie accidentally put it in drive instead of reverse. Went forward and slowly hit a stack of batteries against the wall in front of him. I never saw the initial damage but from what I heard it was nothing major at all. Well a week later the customer comes back and there's a hole in the bumper in he general area of the hit. He complained, finally the manager and the shop owner brought his car back into the shop and reanacted the whole thing. We have cameras in the shop, so that's how they saw it. Well the point of contact was no where near where the gaping hole was on the bumper. Customer was still pissed and in the end got his bumper replaced.

This is why I always do a good look over when I get my trucks back from the dealers. Do a slow walk around looking for new scratches/ding/paint chips, pop the hood and check for anything askew, check the whole interior for any new stains. Had a dealership return the truck back with oil stains on the seat, it was right at the crease, so someone must have sat in a spot of oil and then got in the truck. I 'THOUGHT' they put seat protectors down or something, but I guess not at that dealer. I made them clean all of my seats as soon as I spotted it.

In this situation, its your word against theirs, and dealers will be the first to say 'it wasn't us', in a heartbeat. It all comes down to proof, TBH, if you have photos of the truck right before you dropped it off and there was no paint chips, bam, you win, otherwise, the dealer may just say "It was already like that!"

Not being a dick, just being a realist after dealing with several shitty/shady dealerships! Hopefully your dealer is cool and decides to pony up!

Hopefully not. But the question would be what are your expectations for repair? They may well ask.

A brush touch up? (which can be done quite well by the right person) Or a repair and blending of paint? (which has the potential of 'appearing' in 4-5 years, as the area ages differently than the OE paint)

Agreed. And I understand the principal of a shop being accountable for their staff. I've been staff in a shop, and always used great care with the property of others. Sometimes even returning it looking better than when they brought it in.

But if your ride was a few yrs old, had a half dozen or so 'life events' on each side, would you still have been as upset over 2 new dealer dings? If not, why not? Aren't they just as accountable for the care of an older vehicle as a newer one?

I think the point is more that some things in life just aren't worth the anxiety. If it's used, it's gonna get dinged.

Hope it all works out to your satisfaction!

Looks like OP has a 2015 just like mine. Can't imagine its much older than a year. I would be pissed as well if my new 2015 got a new ding in it from the dealer.

I'd say they have taken the right steps in correcting the issue with you, by having you bring it in. "Customer is always right"; Doesn't mean you are, or are not right, but in the light of things, you with conviction, know the dings weren't there when you dropped it off.

But, on another hand, they could have been there for a week. Upon picking up your vehicle you noticed the dings, maybe because we are all critical when we drop our things off anywhere for service. Same can be true for a simple dry cleaning.

I walked outside one day leaving and immediately noticed my girlfriends car had a scrap on the rear drivers side one day. She had no recollection of damaging her car. She swore up and down someone must have hit it at the dog park. I looked closer and noticed the scrap was in a front to back direction. I also noticed the paint transfer was chalky and yellow. NO cars, that i'm aware of are have chalky paint. So I asked if she got gas, she said yes, I said well you must have turned to sharp and hit the big ass yellow guard on the corners of the pump station. Investigation closed and promotion inbound for my detective work.

Point of this story? You should have and explantation as to why it is there fault and not yours. Most insurance claims are hearsay anyway, so the harder you fight the likelihood you have of winning.

Well after posting on here, and thinking about it further... I called and cancelled the appointment and decided to just have it touched up on my own

There is always that small part of me that can't say wholeheartedly if it was them or not, and it just didn't sit right.

I've bought 5 cars from the dealership and have always been satisfied... I didn't want to burn bridges over speculations. The guy called me today and sent me a voucher to have my windows tinted for free.

I have 3 kids under the age of 6... It won't be the last scratch

The dealership sells touch up paint that is properly color matched and coded for about $15 for a small bottle enough to touch up tons of chips. Also I don't know where you live so I don't know how your roads are, but up here in Alaska paint chips on the front end of cars are inevitable because of rocks on the road, it very well could have been the dealer but it's quite hard to chip paint on accident. I've dropped a screw driver on the paint before and it didn't even chip or dent (it wasn't from too high but still, it did scratch though). I'm sure it very well could have been rocks but who knows. I don't doubt that the dealer could have caused it, obviously I'm not saying that you're lying, but it's really hard to pin point when something like that happened, could have even happened on the drive home. But I definitely have had dealers leave little surprises on my truck before, it sucks. Use this video to help you and repair the chips. I got a chip in my front bumper about as wide as the thickness of a quarter and about as tall as a quarter after 3 weeks of owning my 2015 and man was I pissed. This video helped to touch it up. Good luck!

Shitty picture I know but this happened on the front right bumper of my truck after 3 weeks of owning it, it was pretty loud when it hit my truck, but the chips that I have on my hood I never hear.
