Picked up this spiffy new truck Saturday. It's the 6 speed manual. Really enjoying it so far. Glad I went with the manual. Hopefully I have same opinion in a few months!!

    Congrats. Looks great.

Besides it being a MT, give us some more details.

Won't hold it against you for being from the Bay area. Went to high school in Novato. Dad was in the air force at Hamilton. But that was in the 60's.

    Feedback so far...

My biggest gripe with the 2016s when I was first test driving was the transmission that liked to hunt for a gear. I am sure it would get better as time went on but even my tundra and my old taco liked to shift a bit more than I liked.
Obviously the manual takes that out of the equation. Shifting feels great, really smooth. It has a slightly funny feel as you shift it into first some times, but most manuals do to me. These engines are lacking torque down low, so it's not your typical truck driving experience that I am used to (big diesel trucks). The throw one the shifter is a bit farther than I would expect but it is a truck after all. The truck seems to run at a higher rpm cruising down the freeway that the auto, but that is to be expected.

Just did my first fill up. 352 miles since I drove it off the lot Saturday. I rolled into the gas station with the light on and my range at 2 miles. Clicked off at 18.52, I let it rest for a second and filled until it clicked again. 18.72. So first tank is 18.8 MPG. Not surprised as it has included all kinds of stomping on it and city driving. Keep in mind I have no idea how full the dealer actually left it when I picked it up. So far the computer look extremely accurate for mpg calculations.

If I end up getting the same MPG as my last Tacoma I will be satisfied. I averaged somewhere between 19-23 in my prerunner. The truck had 5100s @.85 and eibachs in the front (about 2.5 inches of lift), and AAL and airbags in the back. Obviously these trucks handle very differently. My impressions is that the 16 is much smoother than the OEM 05 TRD OR suspension had, maybe as nice as the eibachs and 5100s... The airbags really were a game changer so its hard to compare. I also had a camper shell and my signature bald tire mod. The shell definitely help mpg on the truck, and the bald tire mod was especially helpful. Its amazing how efficient no tread is. This truck has nice non bald tires as is 4wd as well. I will see if my old shell will fit this one, but I heard that the new trucks have a deeper bed so I doubt it. I will let you know when I fit the shell.

BTW this is what my pricing looked like:
    MSRP $36,159.00
    What I got: $34,774.00 + Tax/Lic

Interior technology is great. It has the tech package (HH) so I have most the bells and whistles (no jbl). My phone is compatible with the charging mat. Seems like it works fine for crusing down the highway, but as soon as you take a corner, the phone will slip a bit and interrupt the charging. Mainly this just means I get a little annoying chirp, signifying the charger has been disconnected, followed by another annoying chirp saying it has been connected. Really annoying when it interrupts your Bluetooth audio.... I am goign to get a phone case ans see if it keeps it from sliding as much.

I will be towing a boat later today. I will post up a pic or something later.

Congrats on the truck, that's awesome you went with the 6 speed manual. How would you compare it to the Gen 2 6 speed manual? Shorter throws, more precise, better clutch? Thanks

I am new to Tacomas (don't own one but will be buying a 2016 MT). I test drove both 2015 and 2016 and the 2016 feels definitely more precise and probably shorter throw but can't really say. Clutch felt the same. I did not drive them on the same day so it wasn't back to back comparison.
