I've been working on this now for about six weeks. I've been cramped on free time. We just had our second child in July, work has been busy, and the weather has not been on my side. Anyway, FJ-62 front axle with chromo shafts, 4.88, and ARB locker. I'm using the trail gear kit with 4" HD springs. Marlin high steer. The rear is getting Chevy springs with an add a leaf. 4028d54a6265a2d57bd7cc1437d93acb_909fc32a246a9eb7f8d441909dd84a7a57d1a36f.jpg835b0938cc84089538b7539a85e1bbc7_7eb7dd188c59d0e84b08bb14244b87bfa701d73c.jpg9e6806776dd647a1982ff7ceda5efde8_fe30499c18fad8f9973d4bc2e9db066a5aabbd80.jpg478a472681c2033d0740ce33d3bda74d_273411e8f44d960b70c75a429c44da25378b448e.jpg

Frame was a little bent that's the high lift pulling it together a little. The axle went in and came back out, the perches were off a little. 2e7054bd9defeb7f4e0c41befe53f21a_f2250d3682689013789fb9a0c6ecbed11670ecd1.jpgd7dd75eaabb3d2c9530ba36953b1268e_da0aa0fdb16a5929f61d54831c10ae9fef5d0f8e.jpg0ec880524b06d053d079048665c255d1_763bd6b84ca18f24ae58789157d739df44d4c7b9.jpg

The axle is a little more forward and the steering box can't go any more forward. The pitman arm may hit the tie rod. I'm hoping that the shackle will move back enough to clear. If not I may get a flat arm or look for a shorter arm. Mine is Marlin for an FJ62 witch measures about 6.5" center to center. I'll readdress that issue once it's moving againa5df09646cfc69a19f864c3ba4826e80_326e8db7826d4ea7d1970c2b703dac07ea9b9e13.jpg

Remount the box vertical and use a flat pitman arm. That will allow it to move forward a little. Or you can go with an F-150 box or FJ80 box which are forward swing boxes.

feel free to ask any questions. I used the ruff stuff specialties spring perches. For the passenger side you will have to grind it a little to get it high enough on the diff. The trail gear kit come with a 3/8" plate for the driver side, the through bolt on the spring packs is not long enough so I welded it to the perch.

I'm not the safety police by any means. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic and have been welding and grinding for years. But here is a simple PSA, don't trust a grinder. It flew out of my hands and went straight to the knee cap. I was simply just grinding. It's all healed now but it hurt like hell 9babf76634f13483054615a94e70e534_3f353cce73f8b5cc1162b24f92a858aa6f2e4f7a.jpg

    Ouch!

I was an idiot college student when i bought my grinder and threw out the guard, now 15yrs later and i have grown up a bit, the unguarded grinder scares the crap out of me. It has gotten away from me a few times, but luckily just nicked my glove and a barely broke the skin.

Got her turned around today. The wife helped bleed brakes. There is some minor work on the front that's left. I'm using the low range ultimate Chevy spring kit for the rear. The front axle is unintentionally forward, but I'll take it. The mount on top of the diff is for a panhard, haven't totally decided yet on that. fee50d34a4da38846dc3e139f92529cd_d8c2fbf843db2ff416e5d3e4941e801fad62361c.jpg69173cf8b76bb36671c136deb7317a47_7aaa51545ea5987f6da6d38fb84def67f35e52ae.jpg8000ae4fd647e43ff982330cfdff0614_ea2f0b43f391ee537c44e3ca6c7d253155479b32.jpg

Damn that front end is tall. What size tires are those? Looks like you may need to move the axle back. You should not need a pan-hard, we always yanked them off leaf sprung jeeps as all they did was limit flex and get in the way.

The front looks taller than it actually is. The driveway is sloped and the rear end is also down. I was going to use quick disconnects for the pan hard if I end up using it. Tires are 37"

I have the V6. It's all about gearing. I had a 4Runner with a 22re with 38"s on it. It had 5.29 gears. Worked well for driving around.

I suggest keeping the panhard and going with a 4WU 3 link set up.

And you are correct... gearing is everything.
